Nothing would have happened just Maidana losing, when people start talking pillow gloves they have no idea and have never been punched with a match glove.

I'm not talking so much about the gloves being pillows or not, it's more to do with what you're used to wearing and the feel of it. If you have played sport a lot, i'm sure you would be aware that if you were suddenly asked to change something that you're totally used to wearing at the last minute, especially something so important as gloves are in boxing, it is also a serious disadvantage.

Professional athletes use what feels right for them for a reason and have a level of comfort in what they choose and have been accustomed to using. A large part of that may be psychological, but psychology plays a big part in sport.
