1. He sat down with Sulaiman and was paid to let Cotto defend his title against Canelo, on the understanding that the winner had to fight him afterwards. And whilst Cotto and Canelo were preparing to face each other, he obtained the IBF from Lemieux, which would have made the unification fight bigger.
2. Oscar duped him and his team. They wanted a voluntary against Khan, and told him they'd negotiate a fight afterwards, with Oscar telling Loeffler to stand by the phone. Yet he then told Canelo to ditch the belt to fight Liam Smith instead.
Without the beauty of hindsight, he thought he was doing the right thing at the time.
He didn't just take the money over the belts. He wanted the belts. But he took the money because he thought it would eventually lead to the belts.
Nobody can objectively criticising him for taking the step-aside fees.

I've never mentioned his resume, and I too think he's being overhyped.
Basically, you've just used my post to vent your hatred.

Nope, he chooses to bet and loses..
He could have fought or gain the title instead of waiting....
But nah, we can wait, he waisted nearly 2 years on his quest and got only 800k from cotto in return...
He eventually got the title but waisted lots of time..

If it was just about the money, he wouldn't have messed around with Jacobs.
He knows he now has the option of going back to the U.K. to fight guys like Eubank for a guaranteed £5m.
When Jacobs messed him around, he could have dropped him and his belt, to pursue a guy like Eubank instead. Jacobs cost him fighting 3 times last year.
Stop hating and try to be objective.

As the saying goes: "Hindsight is a wonderful thing"
The point is: He didn't take the step-aside fees just purely to make money. He did genuinely want to fight for the titles.
