Ward is nowhere as athletic as he was in the past. The time of the constant vertical level changes and quick lateral movenments are done. This is a lesser version of ward- which is own fault-- but also what shows his ultimate grit and mental toughness.

Let's not be mistaken. Ward has the tougher objective because he will need to go to the body earlier and avoid big shots while being less athletic than he was in the past. Kovalevs only objective is to not get out punched numerically or aesthetically.

The fact that Kovalev was tentative is what helped him in the first fight. He didn't give Ward a lot to build off. Ward would rather be inside where Kovalev is less skillled. Instead he made Ward fight by timing jabs for jabs.

what he lost in aesthetic things like speed, movement speed, he made up for with versatility, skills and the ability to adapt

ward didnt have as good a jab as he does now, to the head and body...he also was not as strong is he is today

also his ability to catch and shoot, is a thing of beauty...he used to fight like a boot leg roy jones

he is more versatile with that vet experience

Ward is ****. Always been a dirty fighter hitting with his elbows. Kovalev schooled Hopkins and he's going to wipe the rings with Ward. It won't be enough next time for Mayweather to pay off the judges!

i thought he fired jdj but then someone said i was wrong... So is jdj gone 100%? Even in the first fight after the 2nd round kovalev told jdj to shut up and let the russian cornerman talk.... Thats why sanchez let kovalev go also i think

he was lucky that the ref allowed him to hold so much in that fight. Wards team just need to cause a scene before the fight about kovalevs clinching tactics on the inside and ward will rip him shred.

i saw a video on youtube of all the clinching and kovalev clinched almost 60 times...... If floyd clnched that much the racist boxing scene fan boys would have a fit......

I think Kovalev's stubbornness is getting the better of him. He left Abel Sanchez because he wouldn't do what Abel told him to do. He spent ages adjusting to JDJ because he didn't want to do what JDJ told him to do. Now, by the looks of it, he wants to pull Beibut Shumenov and be a trainer and a fighter - spend his 1 min break sitting on the stool in silence. He won't beat Ward like that....

Hopefully by now Klimas and Duva have made their money back and Kovalev is free to do as he pleases - make way for Gvozdeek.

kovalev was the better fighter thst night we all saw it. Ward getting away with dirty tactics and having the ref and judges steal that fight was a disgrace. Kov shoukd have mandated the rematch be in nyc or russia because he isnt going to be able to win a decision in wards home area. Vegas is 4 hour drive from wards home. Such a joke of a fighter ward is.

Pre Fight: I had the perfect camp, lotsa rounds in sparring, we have a perfect blueprint/game plan. This is the best version of me.

Post Fight: We overtrained, I was carrying an injury, I didn't have a good camp, torn rotator cuff, etc.

****, it's like the only dude I've ever seen admit he lost to the superior fighter in recent times is Anthony Crolla.
