Extremely disappointed in GGG and K2. Such a downer. They have to understand that fans can be lost not only based on what you do in the ring but outside of it as well...

FML. I'm sure somewhere in this 17 page thread, someone has argued that this is a smart move, but this is still a letdown. What's to stop Canelo from fighting BJS and prolonging the GGG fight even further? Time is on Canelo's side.Comment

what if Golovkin doesn't care because he wants to break Hopkins record against easier opponents before cashing out with Alvarez???Comment

in the IBF, there is no need to "call" the fight. A mando is either due, or it isnt. Right now, its due. So when GGG submits his next fight to the IBF for sanction approval (or the unification request), then the IBF will either approve the unification (Saunders), or will strip him if its anyone other than Saunders or the IBF mando.
If they wait too long though to make a decision, they run the risk of the IBF formally demanding the mando in the meantime. Once that happens, then even a request to do the unification would be denied. It would be mando or stripped.Comment

The point I was making was that if GBP can get a deal for Saunders vs. Lemieux for early June, and Lemieux wins, it might be Canelo vs. Lemieux for the WBO middleweight title. At least the threat of that fight might make GGG accept a flat-fee!Comment

I have a feeling that Golovkin is going to regret that decision.
He has exposed the fallacy of "the main aim is to unify" statements and has now basically thrown himself at the generosity of GBP as regards a September fight with Canelo.Comment
