I'd have to say that getting schooled every round until you quit has to be the most damaging to your career (except for getting seriously damaged which ends your career)

It shows you're not at your opponents level and is probably more damaging than taking a KO in a closer fight because anybody can get knocked out.

It's pretty difficult to make your case when you've been completly outclassed.

I remember Celestino Caballero putting an absolute whopping to Doud Yordan so much so that Celestino was close to the world record in thrown punches for the weight class, something 1000+. At one point Doud's corner said nothing as the cameras panned on and sent him back into the ring to get beat up for another 3 minutes. Doud managed one good punch in the 12th round which staggered Celestino who went back to just beating Doud up.
