imho, it isnt a far stretch to see tyson getting beaten if a real champ was there instead of berbick.

Yeah, when he was 20 years old, I definitely can see that. In his prime, we'll never really know. But good stuff man.

I think the guys Tyson beat in his prime are abit underated. The Holmes he beat was still good enough to beat Mercer, and extend Holyfield years later. The Bonecrusher he shut out had just crushed Witherspoon in one round. Pinklon Thomas was a mobile good boxer with a great jab. Tubbs and Biggs gave Bowe hell and Tyson brushed them aside like they were nothing. It's become a story that the heavies of the eighties were bum of the month and they clearly were not.

Dunno about this thread. Are there really many people backing Wlad as a sure bet?

He's old, and coming off a loss where he looked awful. If we took the Wlad from 5 years ago, yeah I would be backing him to win it easily. But now? Nah, this is a tough fight for him.

Unless he has found some PEDs which will allow him to turn back the clock.

by all rights, tyson should be an ATG. he had it all; hand speed, power, chin. just goes to show you, a lot can be said about intangibles (heart, adapting, ring gen).

Josh has put this fight off foir so long he is now favourite. Not quite on lomachenko level of being champ after 8 fights.

So josh will do what he's supposed to. Passing of torch

Look at Holyfields first reign. Wins against fat, finished Douglas who's next stop was a diabetic coma. Is taken the distance by two 40 plus fighters, then rocked by last minute sub/crackhead Bert Cooper. Then beat by Bowe who barely decisioned Tubbs. See how anyone's reign can be trashed? All you've got to do is take it out of the context of the moment. Give me a fighter and I'll do this to them. The fact is the eighties heavies were no worse than the 90s or 00s.

im glad that you can take a guys entire resume and put in under an unbiased microscope. thats very rare, if not unheard of, in this age of the fan boy.

some guys have fought more bums, geezers and no hopers than others. tyson clearly fits this dept. his ''good'' wins are really reaching.

guys like tubbs and cooper and stewart, sometimes they fight up to they competition. cooper was always good for half a fight. bowe was known for his not training properly. some guys looked at tubbs and took him for granted.

excuses aside, tysons resume is not that of a HOFer, imho. again, had there been a real champ instead of berbick, his claim to ''youngest hw champ'' fame wouldnt have happened.

I'm gonna have to beg to differ on your last point. I think the Rooney Tyson was the best a short heavy could've been. I do see what your saying about the opposition not being stellar, but only the 60s really had a great overall heavy scene. When you watch Tyson out jab Tucker, when you watch him outbox and demolish Biggs you see a dimension as a boxer along with his undoubted power that we never got to see again when he left Rooney. It's a shame. But it was fun while it lasted. His defence was pretty amazing, and his blend of speed and power I think unseen in the division since.
