Although I will give him credit for making more of an effort more recently as he is getting into broadcasting on CSN and he appears on the broadcasts for the Golden State Warriors.
They were all celebrities because they commanded an audience when they fought because they had an entertaining style and they won. Thats what gained them celebrity status.

Plus i wouldnt say Ward is not liked by folks. I think his detractors stem from them not liking his style of fighting which doesnt command an audience so he gets hated on by boxing fans.

De La Hoya and Tito had fans coming out of the Olympics.

And Ward is one of the most highest paid fighters in boxing right now. Why is he even part of this discussion. He's more popular than all your favorite action fighters

Dude Ward is one of my favorite fighters. But as a fan i can admit that he can be quite boring and hard to watch at times. What since Ward is a fighter you love to watch means you cant critcize him?

I hold fighters i like up at a higher standard than i do fighters i dont care for. Im just a fan who likes to see fighters box others fighters ears off for the majority of the fight then in the last 3 or 4 rounds really step on the gas and go for it to put an explanation point on their victory.

Plus i like all styles of fighting. Im not just some guy who say well its boxing and its about hitting and not getting hit so I only appreciate the running and moving and the slickness of fighters. I do like it when guys can hit a fighter and not get hit back. But after showing superiority in that aspect of the game against your opponent in the first part of the fight, now show him you are more man than him and knock his ass out. Thats what being a complete fighter does.

Yes Ward is a top ten paid fighter in the game today, but i think that has more to do with ROC Nation overpaying him on his contract. I believe if he was to get true market value for who pays to see him fight his paycheck wouldnt be as big as hes been getting since signing with Roc. I just believe if his style of fighting was more entertaining his market value would be out of this world.

When I was boxing, sparrings and doing a exhibition, Mayweather taught me something that I thought was valuable, overall health is more important than anything.

Y'all got an excuse for everything. Roc Nation is part of the marketplace of boxing promoters. They play a part in determining what a fighter is worth in the market not me or you. We don't see their finances they are a private company.

98% of fighters would love to be in Andre Ward's shoes right now. Mares, Santa Cruz , Mikey Garcia, Thurman, Danny Garcia will take years to achieve Ward's earnings.

Boxing fans are just so arrogant and blind to the facts and think that just because they feel a certain way about a fighter that everyone else does. The numbers do not lie. You do not need to bleed, take punishment and be an offensive machine to be successful and make money in this sport.

We have are personal preferences but I'm going by numbers. Mayweather, Ward, Hopkins, Klitchko, Rigondeaux, Lara, have grossed millions of dollars in this sport.

            • I would take defense over offense any day, if you look at offensive fighters they were only good because of their defense mechanism.

Mike Tyson for example, ya'll all say he was a great offense fighter? But what made his offense great was his bobbing and weaving to landing the big blow.

And then you look at Pacquiao, who is known to be an offensive fighter, parries, side steps, counter into combinations.

              Like the quote says

"A great defense, is a great offense!"

Promoters do detrimine market value but why is it no other promo company came close to wanting to pay what Roc Nation paid to get Ward under there banner. It's because Roc nation wanted to get into the boxing business and they wanted a top fighter. So to ensure they got Ward they had to pay way more than any other company would. So they had to pay more than what his market value is get him.

IMO Thurman and Garcia are just as big as Ward is value wise and Thurman may be bigger. And Mikey Garcia has a chance to be up there. But don't act like Wards market value worth is astronomical compared to those guys because it's not.

In your opinion what do you think Rigo and Lara have made individually in their careers.

Neither you or I know what Ward's other offers were. No need to speculate though we know what he's getting now. Coulda shoulda woulda but all those fighters would rather be in Ward's position right now I'm sure.

Rigo got $750k for Donaire and $500k per in his other Top Rank fights. Lara got over a million versus Canelo and made six figure paydays against everyone else since he signed with Haymon.

Well if you follow boxing and pay attention to things, you'd know it was widely known Roc Nation paid way more than any other promo so they can get a top guy like Ward in their new start up business in boxing. Which means they paid over market value to get him.

I dipute Lara getting over million vs Canelo. Show me where he got over million. And how many fights has he had with Haymon. I'd say Lara has made no more than 4-5 million max in his career. And same with Rigo. Thurman can fight three fights and make more than what Rigo and Lara have made individually in there whole career.

That's $2.7 million in 3 fights right there.

And think about this now, we are comparing Keith Thurman, an American born, English speaking, charismatic fighter in his 20s to a Cuban defector with no home country behind him who didn't enter the pro game until late in his career. And $4-5 million is not chump change. What has Abner Mares grossed in his career?

I did you a favor Now show me your source that Ward received no other comparable offers.
