Comments Thread For: Hagler Lost the Fight, But Made Much More Money Than Leonard

Marvin Hagler has had to live with some nauseating numbers in the 30 years since suffering a controversial loss to "Sugar" Ray Leonard. First and foremost is the absurd scorecard submitted by Mexican judge Jose Juan "Jo Jo" Guerra, who su****iously scored a very close fight 118-110 for Leonard. Hagler also disagreed with Las Vegas' Dave Moretti, who scored their middleweight title fight a much more reasonable 115-113 for Leonard.

Damn, I knew Marvin made a ****load but I never realized it was this much. That is HUGE in 1987. No wonder he took the dough.

But only Mayweather cared about money and was the first fighter to try to cut Top rank out of a big fight.

No wonder he could retire. Multiply that by three to get todays value - so close to $60 million in one fight. Wonder if he has spent it wisely - should have been able to buy a huge portfolio of properties back then.

I thought it was 12- 14 million, but still a lot of cash. That's a huge sum for 87. He gave up everything but his shorts and boots for that money.
