How could Hagler make more money than Sugar Ray when Leonard was the bigger star back then?

Because Hagler negotiated. It was a risky fight. Leonard needed it more than the Marvelous One.

At the time tons of people thought Leonard was ducking Hagler for the longest time, but those who knew boxing suspected that Leonard would get the nod because of his style.

I frankly felt Hagler won the fight, but judges. I know he retired well off and didn't go broke like Hearns or Duran, so that's something.

One of My Favorite Fighters Of All Time and The Best MiddleWeight Champion of All Time....Marvelous Marvin Hagler.......Marvelous robbed in that decision vs Sugar Ray Leonard.....Hagler had a Marvelous chin....just ask Tommy "HitMan" Hearns.....I am glad that my Father turned me on to boxing in the 80's...that was a brutal era in boxing and Marvelous Marvin Hagler was a predator....this Marvelous Marvin Hagler is one of the reasons I am so tough on todays pretenders in The Sweet Science.....

Dad and I watched the fight on replay back then. Dad had listened to it on the radio live, then visited us and I played the tape. He thought Ray was being quite a trixter in there with Marvin. I thought Marvin won it, Dad thought Ray won. He spoke of the fight many times afterwards. It certainly wasn't a boring fight, but really, how could Ray win so many rounds when he just did flashy stuff at the end of rounds to be showy? Marvin put in more real work IMO. He should've won. But then, he did win the big retirement check. So I'm sure he's comfortable relaxing, out of the spotlight.

Nobody has ever said that so stop chattin ****.

As for Hagler making more money than SRL, I thought everyone knew that? Hagler was a bitter, jealous man who just wanted a fight where he made more than SRL, in return, SRL got to dictate ring size, gloves, number of rounds etc etc. In the end, Leonard ended up winning and cementing his legacy and Hagler came away second best.

History records SRL has the superior and greater fighter so as always, money didn't pay. SRL went in there for his legacy (knewing he'd get a big payday anyway), Hagler went in there to one up his financial rival.

Marvin was fortunate to be handled by the Petronelli brothers. He was living in a shoe box in New York until late in his career. Didn't appreciate money, but he is living his retirement in Italy from his investments. Also, Hagler did not get the lucrative [Hearns,Duran,Leonard] fights until late in his career.
He could have picked the ring size, the gloves, or fought Southpaw (the entire fight) and won.

I always thought it was 25 mil. Oh well just confirmed what we all new that Hagler was fighting for a retirement check and sugar ray was fighting for legacy.
