Comments Thread For: Bernard Hopkins: Chavez Has More Pressure Than Canelo

We are about a month away from the May 6th HBO pay-per-view showdown that pits two-division champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (48-1-1) against former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2-1). The action takes place at the T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas strip. The fighters will meet at a catch-weight of 164.5 pounds with Canelo moving up 10.5 pounds and Chavez Jr. moving down from the full 168 pound super middleweight weight limit.

Hopkins has a reputation as a sage but he talks for extended periods while making no sense. Chavez has no pressure here because he can always say he was weight drained. He has nothing to lose because nobody expects of him. Canelo, the one who all the concessions are made to is the one with it all to lose.

Agree with this. Bernard is trying too hard to be wise.

Win or lose, Canelo's next fight will be at a catch-weight of of 156.29341111.

It's tough to take any Hopkins says objectively because he's a golden boy employee. Golden boy is reliant on the success of Canelo. Reminds me of when don King promotions only had Trinidad left as its only star and once tito was done the entire company went down hill. Only difference is king had a much longer run of success so he wasn't scared to put tito in dangerous fights despite him being the lone star on the roster at that point.

Chavez has nothing to lose at this point. He's been criticized and basically ridiculed to death lol. He hasn't been relevant since the Martinez, the only pressure that's on him is to make weight.

Canelo is the one with all the up side, he's has a lot to lose if he doesn't win this fight.

The pressure is all on him, if he loses people won't say, "he stepped up and lost to a bigger, better fighter."

They will say, "he moved up for a low risk, high reward money fight against a past prime B level fighter and got beat because he didn't have a size advantage he's used to having. Was never that good to begin with. That's what he gets for avoiding lil G."

I agree, but Hopkins and De La Hoya say complete BS sometimes lol. At least say things that are somewhat believable.

Yeah the stuff they say is ridiculous and goes beyond promotion. Like when they said to people that know boxing, khan is the favorite over Canelo. Or when they said that Liam Smith was the most dangerous fighter at 154. Lol

I'm sure Chavez Jr is going to show Chavez Sr this thread so he can try to convince him to smoke "just one bowl" while in training camp.

*Makes eye contact with Sr* "Papi I'm feeling pressured & stressed" *glances over at his bong & back at Sr*
