Randomly California is looking to change that. Hope this passes.
The California State Athletic Commission is proposing a second weight check and additional weight classes, among a 10-point plan to help combat extreme weight cutting.
Cliff Notes of CA's proposed changes that'll get voted on next month.
This is the most complete monitoring plan I've seen for the sport within the sport of weight loss these days in any combat sport. Love all of this, except the extra weight divisions, & in particular I love that anyone coming in over weight more than once will be forced to move up. This will help get some of the riskiest guys cutting weight right now into healthier divisions for them & probably greatly reduce the chance we see them die or damage their body like they are surely doing. Here’s a glance at some of the other proposed provisions in the 10-point plan:
Licensing by weight class: Fighters must put on their license application their lowest intended weight class. Additions to the application will include questions about dehydration and whether or not the fighter has ever missed weight. Based on that information and a physical examination, the doctor and commission will determine if that weight class is safe for the athlete to make. The licensing process is usually done months before the fight.
New weight classes: This was already proposed by the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports (ABC) rules committee and and medical committee last year, but did not garner much support from promoters and was not brought to a vote by the full ABC body. The ABC, which governs the Unified Rules of MMA, would need to pass this in order for it to take effect. The proposal states that weight classes should be 10 pounds apart until the heavier divisions — 125, 135, 145, 155, 165, 175, 185, 195, 205, 225, 265. That’s an addition of four new weight classes and the elimination of one - 170.
Database change: Foster has already requested the ABC database, which commission directors use to communicate with other commissions regarding license status of fighters, and official ABC record keeper mixedmartialarts.com to include weight classes in their information provided to commissions. CSAC also wants the matchmaker to list the weight of the fighters at the time the fight was signed.
Weight offenders: If a fighter misses weight more than once, CSAC is proposing to require that fighter to move up a division until a doctor determines the lower weight is healthy for the athlete to make.
Dehydration checks: Specific gravity testing on athletes by doctors to determine if they are dehydrated at the official weigh-in and the fight-day weight check. This is already something CSAC is doing on fight days in certain cases.
WBC-style weight checks: The boxing sanctioning body does weight checks 30 days and 10 days out of high-level title fights. CSAC wants to bring something like that to MMA. The issue would be how to accurately communicate the fighters weights to commission officials if no inspector is on site.Comment

Thats silly. Khabib still feeling the effects of his hospitalization maybe idk.
Not unlike when Toney fought "ATG" MMA fighter Randy Couture Toney suffered no lasting damage to his image nor did boxing take a hit for that loss. All the damage to his rep has been self inflicted via donuts & a lack of motivation during his boxing career. Cyborg Santos is a killer in MMA, but got her ass whipped in a kickboxing match & no to few MMA fans give a f#ck.
The only difference is that James Toney or Cyborg were never the main face of sports they represent and they never had that status like McGregor so Khabib has a pointLast edited by g27region; 04-03-2017, 10:20 AM.Comment

Khabib is trying to get headlines. He's not trying to make a point.
Cyborg is the face of womens MMA. And hardly anyone gave a f#ck she lost a kickboxing match. It doesn't even make sense anyone would care if you put any thought into it.
And sh^t man this is nothing new. Anderson Silva, arguable the best MMA fighter ever, has lost a boxing match. No one cares. The all time great sumo wrestler Akebono is 0-4 in MMA & 1-9 in kickboxing (don't ask me why a 500lb man is kickboxing) & no one gives a f#ck. Michael Jordan failed at baseball. No one cares. This is a no risk situation for Conor & in particular MMA since MMA ain't even going to have sh^t to do with this fight unless Conor does something to DQ himself.Comment

That don't make sense...lucky charms already has more than 1 defeat in his own sport plus nobody expects him to win so.....if anything it brings more $attention$ to him.Comment

I agree, although I think the bar will be pretty low for most people.
If Conor does ANYTHING good competitively in that fight, whether it is survive or land some decent shots, it will be a win for him.
If he fights a very negative fight, I think he can make it look good. The fact is that he is bigger and stronger than Floyd, has real power, and can throw a very sharp straight left and has some countering abilities.
As long as he doesn't follow Floyd around, he might have a good enough toolbox to make Floyd look bad and appear more competitive than people expect.
I may be giving him too much credit in terms of boxing IQ though. It is easy to look competent in boxing when compared to most MMA guys. He did look pretty **** in sparring.Comment

He's was out of shape and too fat for the weight class, but you can't deny his fighting spirit though..did you see the ass whooping he put on Johnson? Did you see Snoop's commentary for that fight? that about sums up Khabib's work. Unprofessional , no doubt. But I'd put money on that boy to whoop both Floyd and Connor in a "handicap" tag team street fight/cage fight.Comment
