Don't you hate it when someone tells you they're a boxing fan and then they look at you with a blank stare when you start talking about fighters other than the 5 fighters they know but they insist they're huge boxing fans, has happened 3 times this week :|

yeah this has happened to me on many, many occasions

I'll ask someone if they're a boxing fan, they'll say yes, and then I'll try to converse with them about it...I'll start dropping names of today's top fighters and instantly you can tell that they have no f**king clue who I'm talking about

its easy to spot a casual...those types you described are casuals...they are much more abundant than hardcore fans....def love conversing with hardcores but they aren't easy to find

also there are a lot of fans on boards who say things, regarding fighters/fights, that they wouldn't say eye to eye or face to face....you can get away with saying certain thing on the net and not feel weird about it cause you don't have to look someone else in the eye saying it...I see that going on a lot on boards

I think thats common in all sports doe. I remember when I was big into NFL & NCAA football back in the day & I would talk to cats about it & there were so many "fans" who didn't know major guys on their so called favorite teams. People got sh^t to do is the thing, but still wanna be entertained by sports.

The problem for boxing is there is no major stage for boxing, the closest thing is probably HBO Boxing & they are slacking like a mfer lately, like in most other sports so the casuals fans just looking to escape there lives for a couple hours via sports can't do it very often for boxing so the casual fans in our sport are perhaps of the dumbest or least "fan-ish" of all casual fans of a sport.

Yeah happens almost all the time. I've only really talked to about 5-6 people that know what the heck they are talking about and know who fighters outside of Pac, Floyd, and Canelo are.

I hate being in a barbershop and dudes are talking about boxing cause as soon as I open my mouth it's like it gets quiet and they don't know anything about boxing

The other month when Haye fought Bellew, there was a lot of talk about it from the guys who 'love' boxing. Everyone was tuning in etc. I tried to talk also of the fight the same night (Thurman Vs Garcia), got nothing but blank stares in reply

I pretty much avoid it at this stage.

I've had discussions with what I call 'Sky Sports boxing fans', it's the type of conversation that within 30 seconds I'm thinking to myself 'right, that'll do'. Someone 100% seriously thought Lomachenko was a Russian striker (football).
