    If Canelo-Golovkin Never happens.....

That Golovkin becomes the undisputed champion at 160. He defended it against Charlo at 160, Eubank at 160, a Jacobs rematch at 160, a Lara at 160 (Mando) then moved up to 168

Beat degale for the WBA, and then beat Callum Smith for the other strap of the belt then retired with a 43-0 Record

Being an undisputed 160, and a unified 168.

How would history look at Canelo for a fight that never happened?

-GGG becomes Canelo's mandatory at 160

-Canelo tells the boxing world that Mexicans don't F around and he'll fight GGG right there and then.

-Canelo vacates the belt and drops back down to 154

-Oscar says Canelo is not a true MW

-Canelo signs to take on Chavez Jr at 164

-Oscar tells GGG that if he takes a fight just one month after Canelo faces JCC Jr that he'll pull he offer for a fight in Sept

That's a lot of fights for Golovkin to win - don't count on it.

However, your premise is solid. If Canelo never fights Golovkin, he'll need to take on some huge challenges in his 30s to make up for the tarnished image. There's a real chance he goes down as Rid**** Bowe #2.

It's a lot of fight, but not impossible. With a guy like Lara having the same age of Golovkin, and is smaller than Golovkin he would be on the defeceit coming in to the fight with him not be able to earn nowhere near the respect Jacobs has agaisnt Golovkin.

Charlo, Golovkin is the better fighter right now. And degale and smith, Idk if he could win those. Eubank, dangerous but would favor Golovkin to beat him late TKO, UNLESS he has his father's chin, and a legacy rematch again Jacobs.

Not sure what Golovkin's run (the notion that a 35 year old fighter is going to still have another 6-7 fights at the top level, after spending basically the last 15 years at the same weight, is a bit much) has to do with how Alvarez ends up being seen by history.

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is all of 26 years old; no idea if Alvarez will end up being a boxing lifer, but he's basically got another 5-10 years before his body starts to decline (having all of 20 amateur fights helped). You're basically talking about another 15-20 fights.

9-1 in serious fights (anything before the Shane Mosley fight, to me, was Alvarez learning on the job), world champion at 154lbs, beat Miguel Cotto (beating the lineal middleweight champion at a catchweight)/Lara/Trout, is heading up 10lbs (fighting at a likely 15lb disadvantage on fight night) to fight Chavez Jr, with the chance at being a three-division champion, and his status as the most marketable fighter in boxing today.

Even if he goes 13-2 down his back 15 (depending on how he would possibly lose), Alvarez likely gets remembered as one of arguably the best Mexican fighters to ever put on boxing gloves.

If Alvarez beats Chavez Jr, beats "Zurdo" Ramirez, and puts together a good string of defenses/events along the way (winning most of them, but not needing to win them all), he ends up on Mexico's Mt Rushmore of boxing.

Given another 5 years of boxing (assuming he keeps to the three fights a year pace), you're still talking about a 31 year old Saul Alvarez (Floyd was 30 years old at about the time that he, personally, thinks his prime was over, and he spent the next 7 years cashing out $750m in gross earnings).

Rid**** Bowe's issue was that, at the young heavyweight age of 29 years old, he walked away from the sport, trying to come back at 35 years old (at about the time where most folks were done); nobody really talks bad about Rid**** Bowe, because he still left 40-1 and beat Holyfield twice.

The Saunders fight is already in the cue for June, have the Charlo or Jacobs rematch some September, with whomever not getting the September fight opening up 2018; you add that there are still mandatory defenses to take care of (Charlo is a fight away from the WBC, Khurtsidze is owed a defense by the WBO, Derevyanchenko is likely a fight away from the IBF, etc) and the schedule bogs down really quick, imo.
