In 1991, at 19, Joe Calzaghe won the ABA Welterweight title. In 1992, at 20, Joe Calzaghe won the ABA Super Welterweight title. In 1993, at 21, Joe Calzaghe won the ABA Middleweight title. He made his pro debut later that year at Super Middleweight, the division he won the WBO World title in in 1997, at 25.
He was actually a KO puncher in the first part of his career, but he had brittle hands and had to change his way of fighting, which is pretty damn impressive.

You always disliked Joe and I always liked him. We've been debating him for many years, but he had a high percentage of KO's early and he did do one punch KO's. Ofcourse there was also the early stoppages, which definitely didn't look good - You don't have to post the vids.
What another ******ed thread. I don't really consider Joe Cal "mocked" and i think B-hop will forever be mocked for going out through massive beatings by two white guys. The irony
I have never heard, seen or read such things. Only in his retirement he put on some pounds.
He's always been a naturally big guy.
He should have fought at LHW many years before he eventually moved up in 2008. What was the point in him literally starving himself to defend his lightly regarded WBO belt at SMW?
There's a lot of online links where he refers to his weight. Below are just a handful:
