I think I understand why Joe Calzaghe is still mocked.

American do not hate Europeans. This is an unrealistic generalization. Americans like fighters based on how they fight now where they are from. If that were the case they "the Americans" would all hate GGG. They love GGG. Americans love exciting fighters with charisma and power. Joe had neither. Joe was boring. Joe's fights were boring. Joe is forgettable. He fought past their prime greats and did not knock them out. They actually knocked him down in the twilight of their career. This is not memorable. His style was effective but it looked like a cartoon. He was a successful fighter, but forgettable, never to be watched again or to be memorialized. See Swen Otke

My issue with Joe Cal was just from a talent standpoint. I have the same problem with GGG, with all the talent and ability you have, can you test yourself so we can really marvel at your greatness. Boxing is tough, so i get not wanting to face a killer who can have you speaking like a invalid, but don't have this bravado or act like you're special when you refuse to travel across the country to face other great fighters. I wanted to see him against Glen, Bernard and Roy when they were prime, instead of the old washed up versions we seen him face. They both dropped him as they were way washed up and he bragged on beating the both of them as if he took them out as prime versions of themselves. It would've been amazing to see someone who had the athletic skill of Roy, with the all around death of 5000 cuts, slapping of Joe but instead, we saw JC play it safe.

Can't put him ahead of Mayweather. I think he would have always edged Hopkins, probably not Roy. Joe wasn't young when he faced these guys either to be fair.

Calzaghe was a good technician, if he had fought in America against real competition during his prime he would have had 3-6 losses in his career and even then he'd be deserving of more respect than he is now because of the joke of a career path that he took.
The Hopkins win is still a very good win, even though the alien was 43 years old. Don't make it seem, like Hopkins was over the hill or somewhat of an easy fight. Hopkins was/is never an easy fight and with a bag of tricks that big as Hopkins' he made it a rough fight.

hopkins easily won that fight though. he was the only one landing clean punches. calzaghe was hitting air. not really hard to judge a fight in which only one guy is landing cleanly.

I thought he had one of the more spectatorfriendly style, super high intensity, output and tenacity. He was something different. He should have taken out Kelly Pavlik and Carl Froch before retiring, it was a little anticlimactic when he retired, but it probably was a good time for him to do it.

Honestly I have no problem with people giving it to Hopkins, it was a razor thin and very hard fight to score. I've been changing positions a lot on the fight on who won it. I'm one of the few who actually watched it maybe 4-5 times.
