If ward takes a rematch and wins ( i had him losing the first one) he is #1 with all the respect to the little guys they always get the "most skills" credit when in fact its 10x easier to be flashy when you rarely see a 1 punch KO in those divisions , when the big boys fight they need to be more responsible because if they get caught with something nasty it can be all over , Ward if he rematches and wins otherwise i dont really have a clear #1 and if i do take into account the small guys and judge them without what i said before then its Rigo , but as i stated before i believe the small guys will ALWAYS look "better" as they can throw and throw and combo off while rarely getting hurt if a counter hits them.
Ward as much as i dont like went up in weight and fought the scariest guy in boxing bar none and after GGG (who is one of my fav) Jacobs fight i think its safe to assume that a Ward vs GGG @168 will be 80/20 Ward favored.
for GGG to be ranked #1 he really needs something special like what Ward did and he is no where near accomplishing it , it is what it is. (he is still the best MW in the world , just not the best fighter no shame in that).

will come down to how high he's ready to go

Lomachenko won his last Olympic Gold medal, at the age of 24, fighting at day-of 132lbs; he's likely developed since then, but his physical frame is such that 135lbs is likely the highest weight he'd be built for competing at, with his boxing ability giving him the chance to hang with guys at 140lbs.

Once you understand that, it's basically down to figuring out the matchups. Salido did him dirty with the tactics, but he showed the world that, if the fight can be made ugly, Lomachenko is beatable.

They'd still need to have the fights, but I see guys like Denis Shafikov, Edner Cherry, and Hank Lundy giving Lomachenko serious problems at 135lbs, and I see Mikey Garcia outright beating him at 135lbs (let alone talk of bothering with the physical freaks at 135/140lbs; Easter Jr, Barthelemy, etc).

Unify the belts at 130lbs (Floyd's not going to rush anything, but by the time Lomachenko has the WBC/WBA/WBO belts at the weight, the money for the full unfication is going to be beyond big enough to take the chance), and then pick off the right fighter at 135lbs

Because he got beat handedly by Floyd (to heck with CJ Ross, 9-3 was about fair for the fight). He's easily shown that he's in the top 15 p4p at worse (I have him comfortably in the top 10), but getting into that top 5 is where things get rough. With his resume being what it is (48-1-1, with the fighters that he has on his hit list), a rout of Chavez Jr (argue skills all you want, Chavez Jr's size advantage is a clear hurdle) puts him firmly into the top five p4p, with a title win at 168lbs ("Zurdo" Ramirez is the easiest mark, tbh) pushing him into that top 3 p4p.

As far as a clear cut consensus #1, I can't call it.

But gun to my head, Kovalev.

I've watched Ward-Kovalev multiple times, and have scored it each time for him. Close. But he got the nod.

            And I'm a "Ward" guy.

It was a fight between two guys that were pretty much universally accepted as top 5 P4P.

I'm not mad at people throwing out Loma. Special fighter. But I think he needs a little more on the resume before he is stamped. He passes the eye test though.

Never thought Golovkin was the "man", but I still regard him highly. The Jacobs fight proved to me that Danny was a cut above some of GGG's previous opponents, and was a legit threat. I liked Jacobs going in, and even though I picked Golovkin to stop him late, wasn't "shocked" at the outcome.

            Rigo simply isn't active enough.

Long winded post, but I generally don't shit on people's P4P lists.

            It's wide open in 2017.

People don't like Canelo, hence why they never mention him. He's a top 5 P4P guy. He's done far more than a guy like Crawford who everyone lists high.

My top 5 would consist of Lomachenko, Kovalev, Ward, Canelo and Rigondeaux.

I do have a hard time including Rigo now due to inactivity, I genuinely have no idea if he's still fighting. That spot can be switched for a number of guys (the usual few are obvious).

People who state "Ward is P4P #1 after moving up to LHW division and beating Kovalev"...

forgot that Ward was USA Amateur LHW Champion in 2003 at the age of 19. For comparison, at 19 Golovkin was fighting in WW division as an amateur.

Rigo might have been top a while back, but in case you haven't noticed, he's aged and lost a lot of his sparkle.
