By all indicators GGG wants Saunders next in his home country.

Now he's just been in a tough fight in which many (including me) thought he lost. Why shouldn't he get the same criticism as Ward who is perceived (wrongly) to be ducking the Kovalev rematch?

Surely Golovkin wants to cement his credibility by putting all doubts to rest? Why is he not given the same level of criticism as Ward would be if he avoided the Kovalev rematch?

Ward signed a rematch clause beforehand.

    Jacobs did not.

    End thread.

It's not about the rematch clause.

      It's about respect and reputation.

At one time It was certainly about respect and reputation(Barrera Vs Morales). Those days are long gone. It Is now about trying to protect that 0 and demanding the biggest possible payday by taking the least amount of risk.

No, because there really isn't as big an outcry as Kovalev Ward. That decision was way more questionable, check out oxing media and twitter afterwards compared to this fight.

The situations aren't exactly the same. Ward has a rematch clause and there is no other fight bigger than a Kovalev rematch. Unless he fights Stevenson which is clearly not gonna happen, there no other credible opponents for Ward.

A lot more people thought Kovalev won his fight than Jacobs.

GGG wants to unify against Saunders, can't blame him if he takes that fight next.

And Golovkin has wanted to fight Canelo for a while now, so you can't criticize him if he fights him next. The fans want that fight too, it's the biggest fight that could be made in boxing right now.

But Golovkin absolutely should give Jacobs another fight at some point. I don't think Jacobs did enough to get win, but he did enough to earn a rematch.

I would rather see Golovkin vs Canelo and Jacobs vs. Saunders later this year.

No, but it's somewhat understandable. Kovalev was the man. It was a really important fight. These guys were supposed to resolve the P4P #1 argument.

Jacobs was never supposed to win and people would rather see Canelo anyway so Danny will get brushed aside, unfortunately.

                Mayweather v Maidana
                Mayweather v Castillo

Didn't have rematch clauses for the opponent. The fans thought the fights were close and Floyd gave them an immediate rematch without having to legally honor one.

But again, comparing GGG to something Mayweather would do is raising the standards and implying that GGG is great. He's good, but not great. So we shouldn't expect him to push himself against challenges or give rematches to fighters who may have beaten him.

No rematch clause, no rematch has to be honored. The career of a non a HOF'er.

Maidana wasn't supposed to win either, 12 to 1 underdog. No rematch clause. Fight wasn't exactly important either, just two top 10 WW champions fighting and unifying the WBC and WBA titles. Floyd immediately gave him props in the post fight interview and announced his next fight is a rematch if that's what people want.

No because Golovkin isn't held to the same standards as other fighters.
