It was a close fight that could have gone either way. I personally had Ward winning 114-113, but anyone who says it's a robbery or a clear victory for Kovalev is an idiot.

But I watched the fight a second time and I saw Kovalev get completely outboxed even from the first round. The only thing Kovalev did was land that KD and a good power punch every once in a while. Otherwise Ward was consistently scoring points with that stiff jab to the body (ala Mayweather vs Corrales), those stiff jabs and short left hooks to the head that staggared and imbalanced Kovalev, those right crosses to the left rib cage, those left uppercuts to the right rib cage. All that work payed off massively. Ward was patient and deliberate in his approach. Kovalev landed some good shots but for me too much time went between those punches while ward was consistently scoring.
Later in the fight Ward started adding counter straight rights and lead right crosses, and he was landing the uppercut from the southpaw stance on the inside. Kovalev couldn't clinch him properly anymore coz he was drained (them body shots) and was tired from all the wrestling, and Ward was also twisting into the Southpaw stance on the inside, confusing Kovalev and making it hard for him to to neither clinch nor land, while making it easy for ward to land em left uppercuts and crosses (to the body and the head).
In the second fight Kovalev must not allow Ward to consistently land that lead jab to the core torso). Unfortunately Ward will be trying to get on the inside again so he either has to wrestle/clinch or find a way to learn to fight on the inside in one training camp.
Ward must stop the showbowting (bolo) and must not be too relaxed when Kovalev is stalking.. He was gun shy with the counter right hand at the start because Kovalev knocked him down while trying to counter, but he did it well in the second half of the fight and I think he should do it from the start in the second fight, credit to Kovalev for capitalising and discouraging Ward at the start, coz if he hadn't he might have been eating those counters all night.
Kovalev also needs to get an uppercut asap. Ward was ducking low while tryna go inside and he stayed low when he was landing em stiffy jabs to the body. He needs to find a way to discourage Ward from doing that, and I think the uppercut is the right weapon.

Notice how everyone who thought Ward won all hate white fighters.
Most unbiased fans thought Kov won including your hero FLoyd.

This is a bunch of bull****. Ward is younger and had a 2 year sabbatical from the sport. He's much fresher than Kovalev. Shot? GTFO
And since when was Kovalev supposed to destroy him? Ward was the betting favorite.
Lastly, only racist morons like you think it was supposed to 'establish white dominance in the sport'. It was a fight between 2 P4P fighters, no matter the skin color. Take your racist, alternate facts bull**** elsewhere.

Seriously, Ward figured Kovalev out and was outboxing for the rest of the fight. He even hurt Kovalev to the point that Kovalev stuck his head out of the ropes to make the referee stop Ward (and don't make some **** up about Kovalev just letting Ward hit him and that he didn't hurt him, lol, like the guys who say Golovkin didn't get hurt when a Brook uppercut gave him jellylegs).
Some saw it differently and for the sake of argument, then let's agree that a case could be made for Kovalev... If Ward had just barely beat Kovalev, while Kovalev got a controversial decision, then no one would defend Ward or whine about him losing. It is extremely obvious.
Ward won that fight. And he knows Kovalev better now. He has him figured out better than last time and if a knockout happens in the rematch, then it's Kovalev who gets knocked out. He will never get close to scoring a knockdown against Ward again and you all know it. Kovalev has never been much of a technician and he can't adept to Ward's skill level.
Will the Kovalev fanboys please just stop whining? And please, please don't start claiming "1-1!" when Ward wins the rematch. If he has to beat Kovalev 3 times, then you're not doing Kovalev any favours at all...
Loll - Ward was the betting favorite going into the fight.
I've never wined - I just called it like I saw it (and apparently 80% of others did to) - Kovalev clearly won that fight.
Real boxing fans have reclaimed the sport from the corrupt judging - so just as nobody recognizes Bradley as beating Pacquiao, or Williams beating Lara... Or Whitaker drawing Chavez Sr... Nobody recognizes Ward beating Kovalev. Lol I love it!
Also, as a real boxing fan, just like any other extremely competitive fight executed at the highest skill-level, I want to see a rematch. ANY BODY who is a real boxing fan, agrees that there should be an immediate rematch.
Ward agreed to an immediate rematch. If he doesn't rematch Kovalev, and retires instead (he has no other option aside from retiring if he doesn't fight Kovalev next), it'll suck for fans not seeing another great fight, but it won't matter, because Kovalev already won.

Hahah I've noticed that when people are casually talking about the fight, they mention Kovalev as the winner. LOOOOL just like the Pac/Bradley fight.

Jeg er selv fan af Kessler, han var en fremragende bokser. Det ser da bare bedre ud for ham hvis han tabte til manden som også vandt over Kovalev? Du gør ikke Kessler nogen tjenester af at du forsøger at nedgøre Ward.

Fight was 114-113 for Kovy or 114-113 for Ward.
There was no robbery. Put the "white pride" down and stfu. There was no KO or boxing lesson because both guys are top notch fighters. Hope the rematch happens because it's one fight that deserves it
