These are the type of fighters HBO wants so Bob has to sign them. They aren't interested in his Mexican fighters or Pacquiao anymore
Don't think this is about getting him on HBO....it seems to be the opposite, Top Rank is signing boxers that can be developed in markets outside the US and therefore off HBO.
Some boxers, like Lomachenko and Stevenson, can get on HBO...but most of these others aren't getting on HBO for a long time, and we'll see what the state of HBO boxing is then.
For anyone who didn't follow the olympics his medal was paid for do your research on it, there's a lot of links behind it, he lost two fights for certain to Gary russel jr and to Sotomayor in the final also had a very close fight with the russian which could have gone against him, the point being two fights he clearly lost
Top Rank must have tried with Melikuziev first, then Dusmatov or Giyasov before Gaibnzarov. Otherwise they don´t know much about boxing. As many already have pointed out "Faz" won at least 2 very controversial decisions to win the gold.

Markets such as? That red hot Uzbekistan market? If there was a market there he would be fighting there. Others have pointed out he isn't the best fighter from is team. But Peter Nelson likes Eastern European fighters with Olympic pedigree and he's a gold medalist.
“Gaibnazarov is a blue chip signing who will soon be a danger to everyone in the lightweight, junior welterweight and welterweight divisions,” said Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum. “We can’t wait to introduce him properly to the world as a professional.” - See more at: http://www.boxingscene.com/fazliddin....sZQdQHWA.dpuf
Arum lays out his goals right there. If he's going to be a danger to the top lightweights, JLW, and welterweights, he'll be fighting on HBO. Arum doesn't have any other markets. HBO is how he makes his money. It's either HBO or PPV for Top Rank. Arum is catering to the type of fighters Peter Nelson likes.
I didn't see any of his fights in the olympics but why does it matter if he may have gotten lucky on some scorecards? A lot of the top boxers now didn't even make their Olympics team or lost early in the olympics. What matters more is his style, age, potential etc (which I'm not familiar with). Uzbekistan is loaded with talent so I'm sure to even make that team he has to be very good.
