I guess no one told Gamboa you have to make a statment win to get back into contention, instead he goes out and gets a lopsided boring victory... He needs to learn that entertainment is what brings in the MONEY... Since the Crawford fight which he fought very aggressively he seems reluctant to push the fight seems content to just get the win
Gamboa is talented you're a fool if you think this fight shows that he's done. His crowd pleasing days may be done but this fight was akin to a rigo or Lara fight minus the stellar d thru 12
A number of silly, down right NON-knowledgeable posts in this thread. 15 months inactive, and that's coming off of 1 fight with 1 year of inactive prior. He had to cut a lot of weight and put on too much weight after weigh in which made him sluggish. He was a little off balanced, he looked a little too bulky (most likely the water weight he put on). With all this in mind, Gamboa went out and completely subdued a high out put opponent, he still shows a twitchy quick faint defense, and snappy punches. His timing was improving as the fight continued but he still needs work on his balance. He also seems to have lost some speed on his defense and reaction time when his opponent counters his right hook with a left, Gamboa got caught every time on that counter. I thought he looked good with all things considered. He still has a lot left. Once his timing and balance improves, and he stops slapping with his punches, he will be a threat. I'm a little worried about the weight, think if he doesn't get that under control it will derail his attempted come back.
I will make a prediction. If Gamboa regains most of his old form, and we actually get a Lomachenko vs. Gamboa fight, I believe Lomachenko will win, but I also believe both fighters will give the best performances of their respective careers.
Gamboa is verry old aready for his style and weight class. The guy is 35. The days of the wrecking-machine are gone. He has been so impressive as a prospect comming up but this Gamboa is long gone.
