Because it wasn't a legit duck, Mayweather and Arum broke up in an ugly court battle during that time. So the fight was never going to happen regardless of what anyone says. Mayweather vs Margarito, Cotto, or any Top Rank fighter wasn't going to happen.

Remember why DLH didn't want to fight Mayweather? Because he was in TR. He told him if he wants to fight he has to leave TR, so Floyd bought his contract out with the help of Al Haymon. Hence, that's where the Arum-Haymon beef started. DLH chose to fight Mayorga, so Mayweather was left without a dance partner and that's when he chose to fight Baldomir. But DLH-Mayweather was actually going to happen in 2006 if DLH didn't go against his word.

Floyd betting on himself undid the entire "boxing world order", so to speak; Arum, feeding stories to his friends in the boxing press, helped create this false narrative of Floyd being afraid of Margarito (with no mentions of the fact that the money that Floyd wanted, according to Arum, wasn't available).

Once Floyd jumped to Showtime, you then had Arum and HBO, feeding stories to the boxing press, to try and make Floyd look bad.
