Really if he had good defense why has he been light up in nearly every fight...

The guy is a great fighter... he has recuperating powers like wolverine from x-men. Beautiful puncher, but defense is not his strong suit..
Go back and watch a prime Marquez at feather and he was getting tagged.. manny hit him with the same straight left like 9 million times in a row in the first fight

Without looking at numbers (as if they mean much) JMM is/was the busier fighter than Garcia. JMM was a counterpuncher like Garcia, but he countered with combinations.

I would say that he was a more accurate puncher too. The one big similarity is that neither guy likes coming forward and will always look their best against a guy who comes forward.

JMM is also better at creating countering opportunities, because JMM can at least lead decent he can set guys up for his counters a lot better. Plus JMM understood how to move into a dangerous position so the other guy would jump at that but JMM would be ready and waiting to attack.

Garcia really doesn't do anything like that

Hmm don't really see it. Marquez's counter punching is a thing of beauty.

No way. Garcia is a midrange hooker that uses timing to get off. He stands flat footed to gain leverage on his shots.

Marquez sets traps, baits you in his range and gets off combinations.

Two totally different types of counterpunchers.

I was thinking the other day this could have been a fun fight because of a lot of the differences. Both are very good counter punchers, but Marquez is a lot better in combination and better footwork. Danny would have a size advantage. It would be interesting to see Marquez try to set him up for counters.

That said Marquez is at a much higher level than Garcia's ceiling.

Great quote. Garcia's inability to bait Thurman is what caused the lack of action. He relies on his opponent to create mistakes or throw a combination so he can punch with them and catch them in between putting punches together.

Forget it, both are nothing alike. JMM is a master trapsmen, so much smarter than Garcia. Can't believe you're comparing the two.

Nah, Marquez counters in combinations and with more accuracy, when he counters with single shots they're usually straight punches, whereas Garcia counters with hooks. Marquez is just better all-round, he's sharper, smarter and harder to beat.

Danny definitely takes a better shot tho.
