    Danny Garcia- JMM similar? yes/no?

I think Swift and JMM are actually quite similar. And their styles have a lot in common and their careers are eerily comparable.

Obviously, the main similarity I see is their counterpunching skills. Sure, there are some counterpunchers out there...but both swift and JMM are known for their power. Without checking, I believe they have similar KO rates.

Their counter punches are accurate and sharp.

They plant their feet and punch. Garcia is thought to be more flat footed. JMM in his featherweight days did move his feet but I wouldn't call it fast footwork. It's average at best.

They both like to exchange in the pocket. They like when their opponents stay in front of them and punch WITH them. They'll take/absorb punches to land their own.

Garcia had close/disputed decisions with Herrera and Peterson. While JMM had close decisions with Chris John and Norwood. Garcia-Thurman played out quite similar to JMM-Bradley fight.

They both have trouble with guys who move and who have faster feet than them.

They both have taken their share of light touches which many people hated. Garcia had Salka...Jmm had LIkar Ramos and Fedchenko.

Swift just needs his version of a Pacquiao...well Amir Khan was basically it. But I think Swift would do well against a Shawn Porter type.

    Anyways, what do you think?

    Ehhh

Garcia's punching technique is also nothing like Marquez's. Garcia likes to get wild with his shots and at times swings from his hips as well. JMM's counter punching and technique is superb.

    EDIT:
If Porter does not get taken out early, I believe he beats Garcia. Porter's pace would be too much for Garcia.

While I respect JMM's counterpunching skills. JMM has eaten enough punches in the pocket and has gotten knocked down quite a few times (BUT always got back up) to call his technique that much better than Garcia's.

We can debate whether that's more due to defense...but IMO, it comes with the territory.

Garcia is not good enough to sniff the sweat on JMM's balls.

Being KD'ed has nothing to do with technique though.

In concept, yea. The execution of technique, footwork, and mentality are vastly different though.

I was thinking about this the other day. They are in theory. But Danny's technique is so bad lol. I was cringing at all the no look hooks he threw

You guys are right about technique. Danny Garcia is not even close to JMM in terms of his combination punching. And young/prime JMM had the ring IQ to set his punches up.

But we also have to keep in mind, guys are a bit faster at feather/super featherweight.

Anyhow... not saying they are the same type of counter puncher (though they are both accurate/powerful)... I just wanted to point out some similarities.
