Why didnt fighters ever fight Floyd on the back foot and make him lead?

He is not very effective coming forward, so Why was that never a game plan for boxers? Take him out of his comfort zone and make him reach with his shots and counter him?

Canelo tried to box Floyd and failed and Floyd showed he can fight moving forward in that fight if you didn't know already.

He lead against Gatti. Lead him halfway to his grave and Gatti's wife did the rest.

if you wait for floyd to long, nothing happens as PBF does not take risks, but is also superb in pilling up the points from the outside.

imho best counter puncher in PBF's resume is JMM, but Marquez had to take the lead as Floyd being longer was scoring from the outside consistently...

Because you have to be outboxing him, and scoring points on him in order for him to have to come to you. Or be a southpaw. It's a lot harder than it seems.

Floyd is not a pressure fighter, he will wait and doesnt care if the fans boo, floyd forced marquez to come forward, and that took jmm out of his game plan, because jmm sucks going forward so jmm played into floyds hands.

Floyd uses a long stance he has superior reach so he takes a lot of real estate in the ring giving his opponent the illusion that floyd is closer than he is so they fall sucker to it and start pressing him only to miss.

Most trainers today are garbage they have no clue on how to teach or fight against the shoulder roll stance of floyd. If floyd fought in the forties he would be a dime a dozen, and probably not last long because his style was very common in those days it was actually the norm back then, floyd is not unique stylewise he just uses an obsolete style that nobody teaches anymore and it works because no trainer or fighter has a clue how to face it.

Watch older tape fighters would maul guys and press them if they fought like floyd, this why maidana and castillo had the best success against him, and those guys arent even as great of the pressure high cardio 15 round maulers of the olden days who faced shoulder roll defense fighters regulary

He didn't fight many opponents who were taller or had a longer reach. Not just that, but both of those attributes, plus athletic. No way he ever needed to come forward otherwise.

Has nothing to do with being taller or reach, it all comes down to skill and strategy.
