These guys look well below the standard at welterweight 10 years ago. Compare this to Williams-Margarito, or Cotto-Mosley.

The division does not deserve the pedestal upon which it has been placed.

It's why they improve at a snail's pace, if they improve at all.

Styles make fights and to appreciate boxing you have to appreciate all of the styles. Porter vs Thurman had high action. But Garcia likes to plant his feet and counter.

It's a matter of wanting to see the best fight the best or cherry pick fighters based on styles to create more entertainment.

It seems like nobody learned from De La Hoya-Trinidad.

That's why it's not a good time to be a boxing fan nowadays. Fans don't get to see enough of them. Frustrating part is they don't have any reason to wait for long periods of time before scheduling their next fight. The variety of fighters they're matched with is very limited for the duration of their shelf life. Thurman vs Brook should have happened long time ago, for example. Then there's the 154 division abysmally slow in producing stars. The boxing business is basically funding part-time boxers, or "guest" boxers, who should not have picked the sport as a career in the first place.

Last night was Not a breakthrough fight and it be -- and we can only hope -- a part of a series of fights that leads to a clear welterweight champion. And from that, it's likely a star will emerge.

We need to stop getting caught up with that "can this fight save boxing" mindset. Boxing is in a rebuild stage. And the best way to build it up is to continually make good fights. Last night, we took a huge step in the right direction. No, the action wasn't scintillating but two of our premier fighters took center stage on free TV. Not to mention Erickson Lubin probably making a few new fans. Imagine if Spence beats Brook...and he fights Thurman next on NBC? Sick, right? Don't get caught up in the moment or you'll miss what's ahead.
Last nights fight was Not a Breakthrough Fight . Regardless of who Thurman or Garcia fight next Us fans are gonna watch . But " Breakthrough Fight " ? As in broke through the mainstream to bring in New fans or viewers to the sport ? No way . If ur implying It Should've been but neither fighter Dared to be great then I agree . Everything was set in place for either fighter to Become the New Face of boxing but the opportunity wasn't seized .

Floyd would always talk trash and then come out and fight his cautious, defensive, no-risk fight. He was able to retire undefeated and kudos to him but I think a lot of fans were happy to see him go.
