When you recommend something over something, it's not because it's better?

Well there's other things to consider like infections etc, not just how well it rehydrates. It's about weighing up the pros and cons.

I presume the boxing officials have done this to deter, certain fighters from draining too much weight! But there are always going to be boxers that are desperate enough to drain massive amounts of weight leading up to a weigh in! It has been theorized that the possibility of brain damage is increased during a fight, when fighters are dehydrated! Have you noticed the way most of the boxers who have received career ending injures are all at the lower weight classes...? (Where there is a culture of draining weight! this is one of the major reason's why Heavyweight's can have longer careers!)....

They banned them in UFC recently too.

That's why I figured I'd ask - what exactly are they trying to accomplish?

            Good post.

Me asking didn't have anything to do with the whole Floyd debacle.

I just heard how UFC banned it too, so I was like WTF is going on here... WHY? In the most dangerous of sports with the risk of brain trauma, where they cut weight a day before the fight, would you ban the best technique to medically and properly rehydrate the body and brain?

I guess it's cause USADA, or VADA took over the drug testing protocols there as well.

But why would you want to do it so much? You can only be "so rehydrated" until you reach at point of diminishing returns, aye?

                Good post.
That's because UFC now has USADA testing. The USADA/WADA rules were created to cover all sports, athletes dehydrating themselves before competing is pretty unique to combat sports and the rules aren't tailored to them.

                  Interesting...

Wow, I assumed intravenous would definitely be more effective - guess not, doe.

I saw an interview with Johnny Hendricks where he talked about how much better IV rehydration was, and how when they banned it, it inhibited him from fully rehydrated by fight night.

Maybe it's one of those things where the placebo effect is in play - he believes it, so therefor it is.

                      Hmmm interesting...

Could you not just orally take the same chemicals to mask,, though?
