After Ward/Kovalev, it seems as if everytime a fight fan's favorite fighter loses, somebody starts with the "R" word, which is useless at this point.
So, to clarify, there is no such thing as a "robbery" that was a close fight, meaning in a 12 round fight, a fight where a fighter did not win 8 rounds decisively.
Ward/Kovalev could not be a robbery, regardless of the outcome because neither fighter won a DEFINITIVE 8 rounds out of the 12.
You could argue that Ward won 4 definitively, Kovalev won 4 or 5 definitively, and the rest were up to interpretation.
THAT is not a robbery.
What we saw this weekend with Adrian Broner getting the decision against Adrian Granados, wasn't a robbery either, even if you think that Granados should have won, because there's no way that either fighter in that 10 round fight won 7 rounds DEFINITIVELY.
Robberies are predicated on somebody basically annihilating their opponent for 10 or 12 rounds and definitively winning the overwhelming majority of the rounds and yet still losing or getting a draw.
Bradley/Pacquaio I is the epitome of a robbery. I've watched the fight 3 times and each time I have Pacquiao winning 9 or 10 rounds definitively. No way in hell should that have been anything but a blowout win for Pac.
Julio Cesar Chavez/Pernell Whittaker is another Obvious robbery.
Can some of the "serious" fight heads, please school some of these youngsters on some true robberies in boxing
