I believe English should be the official language of the US and that you must speak it to become a citizen.

Of course Lara speaks English, but I'm sure it's average and he's not confident enough to speak to media.

You put a microphone in front of many native English speakers and even they freeze sometimes.

Plus it doesn't help when many American media people describe ppl who speak English with an accent as "barely speak English"...yet they speak it very well.

When I became a US citizen I only spoke Spanish. I was a child. Thankfully, the US is not as backwards as some people would like it to be, so I learned English while being a US Citizen. That made life easier.

I was speaking only about adults. I think an exception can be made for young children. However, by the time they start school, they IMO should be able to speak the language.

I'm not on the BS some in this thread are. You should be commended for a willingness to learn the language. I just feel very strongly that learning the language be a requirement to become a US citizen.

Also, Americans are demanding immigrants to be fluent in their language but then look at your post "joinin" - it's joining. "english" - e is capitalized. "Poulation" - i'm sure you meant population. "I got no problems with that" - I have no problem with that.

First, learn to communicate in your language properly before demanding someone else to learn it. English is my 2nd language btw.
First off I communicate quite well. Forgive me for a couple typos and forgetting to capitalize a proper noun. Did'nt realise I was going to be trolled by a grammar ****.

Second, I made it clear, I don't agree with immigrants having to be fluent in "English".

Third, yes we are built on the foundation of many cultures, but the vast majority of that is of European descent. So if you want success outside of China Town or Little Havannah then I would suggest adjusting accordingly.

This is a terrible thread. You are more racists than Angel Garcia, and Freedom. Lara was born and raised in Cuba. English is not his first language. At least he never hide that he cannot speak the english language fluently. Anyway the native Americans were the original inhabitants of this country.

I think they should work towards being functionality literate. It's hard for an adult to learn a new language. Some people pick it up faster than others. I'm sure his children speak English and Spanish. The man went thru the long process to become a citizen. He's proud to be an American.
