Comments Thread For: Nelson: Mayweather is Not Given The Credit He Deserves

Johnny Nelson reckons Floyd Money' Mayweather jr will have to wait to be recognised as an all-time great. Fans can quiz Mayweather about his career in Leicester, London and Liverpool next month and Nelson will host the shows, promoted by Shane Whitfield's Kong Events.

top 5 all time, you can even argue he really is tbe, faced more champions than anyone else and came out with 0 losses, he had two tight fights his entire career and then gave both fighters rematches and won easily

He hasnt lost a fight since the Olympics (0 losses, O legit kd), and that was a robbery. He has the TOP 5 ppv's of ALL TIME, Faced more champions, (the guy that was supposed to be his#1 competition, he schooled), made the most money. How is he not the Best Ever. People even hated Jordan when he was on top. He's atop every list that matters, #1.

I agree , Floyd would have stood his own in any era but he is becoming irritating with the Mcgregor stuff which has little to do with boxing.

We all know Mayweather is an ATG fighter. What amazes me is how many people try to misclassify his body of work. The "no power" argument is a perfect example. It's obvious a fighter who moves up in weight is going to lose power, especially when you're fighting nearly 12 - 24lbs above your peak weight of 130 - 135. At 140 and below, a fighter was lucky (or tough as hell) to go the distance with him. But the "power" point is just one example. (The quality (or lack thereof) of his opponents is another blatant lie perpetuated on forums like this. His "movement" in the ring is another one that's really exaggerated.)

Wasn't old enough it see them all, but based on what I know it's hard to not have him in the top 10 of all time.

Exactly. I loved the boxer Mayweather, but this retired dude is sickening when it comes to this McGregor crap and being an attention craving promoter. Fall back dude and let us appreciate what you did in the ring.

Top 10! How about the best ever? He was dedicated to his art. He dictated his fights, he never slipped in training, and took all his fights seriously.

Regardless of where he lands on the ATG list you have to admit Mayweather is a unique boxer. Early in his career he beat most of his opponents by basically using his skills. Later in his career he was mentally more prepared than whoever he was facing. Even in fights he was struggling he never lost his mental focus. For him to go undefeated in this day and age is quite an accomplishment. The fact that so many people hated him doesn't diminish what he was able to do.

That's because he always went for the money... not the credit. And has consistently denigrated boxing fans.
