You appear to be unaware that US federal court issued a judgement guaranteeing Fres Oquendo a shot at the WBA world championship. The WBA has no choice in the matter.

If your minimum bid for a HW title is a million then don't mandate fighters of the calibre of Briggs and Oquendo to fight for the title - the fight is clearly not worth a million in today's boxing climate. Better still don't have such a straight jacket rule.

This is pathetic, so it's delayed for a week and the possibility and likelihood is the purses will be even less than 400k. Why the WBA didnt just ratify the 400k bid or have the second purse bid immediately afterwards is absurd. This farce of keeping Oquendo around has gone on long enough.

this is how it works. two purse bids and if nobody bids the minimum, the fighters risk losing their position.

My point is you can't justify this AND a WBA 'super championship' fight between AJ and Wlad. Wlad is coming off a loss and the fight isn't a real unification (IBO). The WBA are just trying to get their dirty fingers in all the pies.

The justification is simple. Oquendo is only owed a shot at the secondary title. He's done nothing to earn a shot at the full championship. WBA also owed an interim shot to Ustinev, a secondary shot to Browne, etc. Giant mess. So things are being done in the way that minimizes potential lawsuits and ties up all loose ends.

Wlad/Joshua winner takes care of the obligation to Ortiz, Briggs/Oquendo winner takes care of the obligation to Ustinev. Winners fight each other and this whole mess is resolved.

That still doesn't explain why AJ and Wlad are fighting for a vacant WBA super title, if a super title is vacant and neither fighter is holding a regular WBA title makes no sense for them to create another meangingless belt

because fury vacated the title and wladimir was in line to fight for the vacant title. he requested that he be able to fight joshua for the vacant title. doesn't change that oquendo is still owed a secondary shot. why isn't joshua worthy of fighting for the vacant title if the leading contender makes the request?

the problem is so many guys are owed title shots due to the WBA having had 3 titles that just because all 3 became vacated doesn't mean you can meet all of your obligations by only crowning 1.

so give the WBA kudos for getting themselves from 3 to 2 and having a clear path to 1 champ.
