DiBella is being ****** here. I'm all for the fall of PPV, but I don't see that its dying. I see the two biggest PPV names are gone or all but gone + fighting bs guys now thus boxing needs a new PPV king to find his place. Its not like you go from nothing to PPV king. There is a trajectory to getting 1M PPV buys in this business.

People keep acting like its nothing to get 1M PPV buys & since no one has done it lately its a problem, but the reality is only 9 guys have gotten 2 or more 1M+ PPV fights in their careers in the history of PPV boxing. Canelo is likely to become the 10th with his fight vs Chavez Jr if they have any success with that promotion. Only two have gotten 1.9M+ more than once in their career (Floyd & Tyson). Its not a failure for guys not mainstream or vs subpar opposition to do sub 1M numbers.

And Joshua is already a star in the UK & has global star (world star!!!!!) potential & the Klitschko fight could be the first step towards that end. Wilder has been building more & more lately & has that sexy record that will get mainstream attention once it gets out there more. These two fighting is for sure a PPV fight if you wanna grab maximum money & I'm a little confused why DiBella doesn't want maximum money. I almost feel like this could be used as a cop out to make this fight or something it seems so out of place.

And I can't even believe I'm arguing this as I'm a big supporter of boxing on free TV & I'm anti-PPV, but I know the reality of the business in the recent past til the present is strongly based on PPV & Joshua has already shown himself to be PPV sellable.

At 70 or 80 bucks plus tax and fees that is a tough ask.

To get to that level Joshua would have to fight at least once in the USA and preferably twice while really make his rounds on the circuit.

While that is going on Wilder would have to knock out Tyson Fury and some other high end name Haye, Parker, Ortiz, Wlad depending how the Joshua fight goes.

That is a lot of steps, when they could just hold the fight in the UK and make a bunch of money. It is not like the UK puts it at a terrible time in the US 5 to 7 pm might not be PPV ideal but that ain't the middle of the night either.

Pretty much this. There's not much noise for the Heavyweights in the US right now.

That is a fight you want to maximize on PPV though, I would not even put it close to that yet in the US.

What is more valuable to hold it in the UK and have it sell 100k at 5pm on a Saturday or have it available to a large number which sets the winner up as a bigger star?

If it is held in the US it is sacrificing UK money because it will be at like 3 am there.

It is an interesting business dilemma, if they could easily sell PPV in both markets they would though, it is not like they don't want that money so his argument is kind of silly.

The time of PPV stars is over ---finito! There will be the occasional PPV fights, but they will have to be very special fights. The day when "stars" could fight stiffs on PPV is history. mainstream America has all but abandoned boxing. Were it not for Latinos, Blacks and other ethnic ********** there would not be a national market for boxing even on regular cable TV. To borrow a phrase from Trump, "Other countries are leaving us behind. So Sad!"

I don't need really want to see fights on PPV, I want it to be on national prime TV. And hope that would be the future.

Or just have it for free. This can actually work. PPV over there. Free here. I love the idea of early evening fights on network TV. All the other sports here hold most of there games in the afternoon/early evening.

Before too long boxing in the USA is going to vanish from mainstream TV and all but disappear from PPV. As most industries have found out, the future lies with the Internet. Promoters should start adapting and developing new platforms. By way of example, imagine virtual reality streaming that puts you in the ring seeing and hearing the fight from the boxers' perspective. There is a world of possibilities with new technologies out there, but none with the current formats.

That does make the most sense, and if the event is properly hyped up Wilder could then possibly be a PPV star because if he was to win it would likely be by knockout.

Without getting into his chances that would be his best shot at getting to be a PPV attraction.
