Comments Thread For: Chavez Jr. Reveals That Nacho May Train Him For Canelo

A new trainer has entered the race to prepare Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. for the upcoming Mexican mega-match with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. The HBO Pay-Per-View fight is scheduled to take place on May 6th at a catch-weight of 164.5-pounds. Chavez Jr. is looking for a well-known veteran trainer to get him ready for the contest - where Chavez Jr. would have to squeeze down to his lowest weight since September 2012, when he lost his WBC middleweight title to Sergio Martinez.

Beristain should've been his first choice, and that training camp should've started a month ago.

El Gordito will pay the 3.5 million for coming in at 168 and will still have lots of money from the fight and ppv side!

He'll walk down and stop Canela when he gasses out in the 8 and get a ref stoppage in the 11th!!

You are probably right about Chavez coming in over the contracted weight, but I doubt that he beats Canelo, much less knocks him out. I don't recall Nacho training fighters who are plodders. Chavez Jr. fights more like George Chavalo or Chuck Wepner, than the Marquez brothers or Finito Lopez. I think this is an easy fight for Canelo.

Agreed on Jr. being similar to Chavalo but Nacho will use his size to walk down Canela, get him to use footwork and help his footspeed, and cut the ring off ; plus throw combos!

I see training camp being 70% cutting weight, 15% stamina/throwing combos
          10% footwork
5% getting him to focus on training and not pigging out

Jr is a huge guy and punches harder than Cotto and Lara who marked Canela's face up!

This will be Cotto vs Margarito 2.0, Canela will gas cuz he'll have to move on his feet more than he likes and throw more punches than he usually does to keep Gordito off him!

He's faster with hand but slow feet!

I know that Junio read my Post!!!

I said that a week ago, Nacho for Junior. Garcia won't make Junior a different boxer.

Article talks about 8 week training camp.. is he kidding? It's gonna take 10 weeks just to get him to make 164 . He'd need at least another month to actually get comfortable at that weight.

This is probably Chavez' last big shot in his life. He needs to stop d1cking around until May, and he needs to get his ass in gear NOW.

He's obviously going to come in over the weight limit and happily pay, I believe he'll come in comfortable at 168! He'll lose 3.5 million but he'll get that right back come fight nite and plus more!
