How all of a sudden? It's always been. Especially when used the way you tools are trying to use it. Golovkin is the consensus #1 middle weight. A win over him means more than a win over Canelo, whoever beats Golovkin will carry hype, it'll be big, Canelo looks vulnerable, no one will care nearly as much, and to prove that, Golovkin is often put in the top 3 p4p, where is Canelo? How is Golovkin not the man to beat at middleweight?

But no, you want to carry on with your irrelevant nerdy bullcrap about Canelo being "lineal" and thus somehow "the man to beat" at middleweight. L o l. He beat a tiny Cotto who beat a shot Martinez, then dropped his belt to run away from an actual middleweight and this guy is meant to be something at the weight? *** off.

    • At the end of the day, the people's opinion count. Everyone and his dog know Golovkin is the champ at 160.

The lineal championship at MW hasnt been defended against a natural MW since 2013, Larry.

Just because Lineal is normally a good title, doesnt mean that it is in this case.

People always say a title is only as good as the champion who holds it. I dont think thats true. A title is only as good as the challengers you defend it against.

Quoted for truth. If you're a champ, you must defend that championship or relinquish it.

And I'm sorry, Amir Khan who went back to welterweight is not a good MW defense. It would be OK if Canelo had this catchweight fight (an OK matchup as a boxing event, just not a valid MW defense) and then followed it up with a valid MW defense. But that's not what happened.

April 2013 was the last time a full size MW got a crack at the title. The "MW title" has turned into a joke.

Unifying does have something to do with it...hopkins started the new linage by unifying. The lineal mw title was vacated by james toney and remained vacant until hopkins unified the division. How many times have title lineages been broken? New lineages are started all the time, which makes it a watered down concept. Talk about the ring belt...at least that holds some value and has an actual ranking system. Lineal lineal lineal...blah blah blah...
