HBO has a lot more subscribers than Showtime, so proportionally they got annihilated. HBO has like 1/3 more subscribers than Showtime so all things being equal they should do 33% more just because they have more possible viewers.

So HBO getting outdone by 18-20% by Showtime that is much worse than it actually looks.

Showtime outspent like crazy with not very much to show for it. How can you justify spending that kind of money for shows that DON'T even crack 600k viewers. Cruz himself made DOUBLE what the entire cost HBO spent for their card.
What do purses have to do with ratings? Did the HBO card even crack 500k in revenue? The showtime card spent 2.6 m in purses, but I'm sure it did enough in revenue, site fee and sponsorship to make some money. Another thing, HBO and Showtime make money by subscriptions not ratings.

Good. This encourages Showtime to continue putting on great cards. Showtime has 8-9 million less households and still beat them. Hopefully this encourages HBO to stop putting on cards the same day as Showtime & stop putting all their stars on PPV.

Mauro was working hard this weekend, went from broadcasting boxing to working the Royal Rumble for the WWE.

Hearing him call wrestling cracks me up.

Yea he is pretty good for a guy that basically started out calling second rate MMA cards. Certainly shows networks don;t needs to go with big names to call boxing just get a guy that is excitable and is willing to run with it.

I like Mauro better bald though he looks weird with hair.

The purses show this was NOT a Marque card for hbo. It was a cheap boxing after dark card while showtime paid out the nose and promoted this as a Marque fight and the ratings were comparable. Last month the HBO had a Marque fight and that drew 1m viewers. And of course the purses matter both showtime and hbo have yearly budgets that they spend for fights. They used up a big chunk of that budget for a fight that couldn't Crack 600k.
