I can remember Carl Froch stating that his physical prime, when he was breaking all of his training personal best over sprints, endurance runs and body weight exercises! was when he was 36/37 years of ages. Carl Froch used to keep a black book, which had documentation all of his training routines since he turned professional! every single repetitions, and type of exercises.
For me i am not a fan of boxers or athletes jumping from routine to routine, or getting carried away with all this sport science! special diets and weird training protocols that basically are aloud of nonsense. Have the basic a fundamentals down and then work around that.
The real great fighters don't have a distinction prime, they don't have a massive drop off in performance. Because in my opinion they train consistently and probably. Mayweather, Hopkins and even Froch all share these traits.
At the 4min 55 second mark he is speaking about this black book!

He says he was stronger and actually had better stamina late on than in his first run, but had to change his style to accommodate his reflexes being slower. Remember the look Hagler had against Leonard? Klitschko had it too, just a little slower to pull the trigger. In fact Wlad said he's stronger and fitter than ever. Hard to tell with Golovkin, Brook being so accurate too. Froch looked much slower in both Groves fights though. It's maybe something neurological, that doesn't show on gym tests.
I think it is neurologically, as you have pointed out! as people get older they usually slow down in their attitudes. Also this jogging craze, does not really help things! slow drawn out exercises day after day is detrimental to you in my opinion! because it totally neglects your central nervous system, which is like the electrical core which powers your muscles.........(The electrical component to power and speed, is not greatly understood! but it is a factor).
NEAR the end of his career, Carl Froch stopped sprinting! and started to go on long bike rides! and he also incorporated more swimming. For general fitness, this is great! but for performance? no.
These two exercises don't really train your nervous system, swimming puts less stress on your central nervous system. And i think this was the reason why he slowed down. Its also why somebody like Michael Phelps can do so many events in swimming, physiological its actually easier! you are not battling against gravity, so your power to weight ratio has less of a effect on the performance! Your power to weight ratio, is how much force you can produce in comparison to your body weight! i.e a formula one car has a massive power to weight ratio in comparison to a Truck! so do Olympic weight lifters and Sprinters.Last edited by PRINCEKOOL; 01-28-2017, 12:09 PM.

GGG didnt look in his prime against Wade and looked just as bad against Brook
He looked a bit slow and uncoordinated against Wade, just not the same. I believe Carl

GGG is a young 35 year old though. Hasn't taken a lot of punishment in the pros. Nearly every fight doesn't go the distance. I think he's just reaching his prime now. Fighters peak at different points and it seems like these days 40 is the new 30, even in boxing. We've seen a lot of fighters in their late 30's, even well into their 40's perform at a high level and those guys have taken a lot more punishment in their careers than GGG.
I'm sure half of them are on PEDs, but oh well, what the hell are ya gonna do?

GGG might be the most over-hyped boxer ever and a commie
GGG has yet to beat a true opponent and big ears Jacobs isn't a great opponent. Canelo and Charlo might give the over rated commie GGG a test. The middles are a weak division so even 168lbs might be an option for GGG. How about a Groves scrap?
How about a DeGale? No buy into the communist propaganda cold war bull ship of GGG. GGG is not great.
