Slipping allows you to counter effectively by throwing unorthodox punches that can really throw off your opponent. Slipping and weaving can also allow you to dedicate more authority to your punches.

There's nothing more beautiful in boxing than seeing one guy slip another guy's right hand- going to his left- & placing a left hook downstairs.
Slipping is all around better than blocking...blocked punches can still do some damage, & also may have a judge thinking the punch landed.Comment

Slipping takes more energy honestly. If you are relaxed in blocking and good at picking off the shots you can do it all night.Comment

Well blocking can be very useful if you got good handspeed and with blocking you can test you oponents power, with slipping sometimes your opponents power could be tested on ur face, watch the round 12 on Hopknis vs. Trinidad how Hopkins blocks Felix's hook and then throws a right or left hook(i dont remember) TKO's him.Comment

It all depends. Winky Wright has a very effective style just blocking punches and then firing shots when the guy stops punching.
Personally, I think slipping punches is more effective as it can be used for momentum to get power on your counter punches. Mark Johnson, Pernell Whitaker, Floyd Mayweather Jr., and James Toney have the best head movement I've seen in my life. Of all time, Wilfredo Benitez has to have the best head movement.Comment

Maybe because he doesn't think that Tysons head movement is the best?

I block a lot - for me, slipping, although it looks great and can create openings, takes up too much energy. It's useful, but only in moderation - it's too big a movement for too little return, unless your sure that the counter after the slip will hit.
I block mostly, and slip once in a while. When i try to slip i get hit a lot too, but that's just my bad technique and timing.Comment

Tyson had good head movement and he did use his head movement well to set up his punches. I'm tired and just woke up.Originally posted by mystyal2k5ahahaha. funny how u didnt mention tyson in 1 of the best headmovement you've seenComment
