ive seen him beating up a 40 year old, european level fighter in his last fight. People watched that and got so excited. What gets me annoyed is the arrogance and the certainty that spence is going to be p4p type level. How does anyone know if hes any good until he fights someone who will throw punches back at him? Fact is lacy looked just as good beating up the level of garbage that spence is beating.

Potential is what you see in the way a guy does does things, hype is the inflation or deflation of an opponent.

There is a difference and that difference is experience and why some people can watch a guy go around for a few rounds and say wow that dude has got the goods.

You are missing the entire point of what spotting a real deal is all about, all you see is an opponent and base the lot on that, if they not beating King Kong you cant see a star in the making, in the early stages of a elite fighter I see the way a guy does things more than who he is doing it to.

there was a comprehensive video of how many punches were landed and hopkins outlanded calzaghe in a majority of the roudns so your conclusion that calzaghe was landing more is off. yeah hopkins didn't land that many compared to ward-gatti but he landed more than calzaghe who was his opponent so the handful of punches argument holds no weight. he only has to be better than calzaghe and he was.

also calzaghe threw more for sure but that just means hopkins should get credit for defense for slippng and making calzaghe miss so much. defense is a scoring criteria not throwing punches.

i don't know how you can control the fight if your opponent outlands you and lands the much harder punches. did hopkins get tired in the later roudns and lost some of them? yes, but that doesnt retroactively give calzaghe early rounds that he was outlanded in.
