Drug testing is an impossible problem in a lot of ways. Sports governing bodies really have zero incentive other than public pressure to implement an effective drug testing regime, and then when they catch a bunch of athletes, everyone thinks your sport is a ped haven.

The more cheats you catch the more people think that sport is dirty. Like cycling has one of the best drugs testing regimes in the world, Armstrong situation aside, complete with long term monitering of cyclists stats that will pick up the signs of drug abuse, but no one says that cycling is a clean sport because the ****ers are getting popped all the time.

Its like paying for your own sports downfall.

Only way is for journos and public to keep the pressure on. But it will always be a losing battle

Great post. And I believe thats why the bigger names have gotten swept under the rug a lil more like with the names mentioned in this thread too.

Ultimately the only reason to drug test is for the boxers & the sport of boxing. I'd argue most fans don't care about PEDs or at best got a short memory about it. The main problem is to most of the money guys in boxing the boxers are cattle & the sanctity of boxing past their next big fight money grab isn't much of a concern. They have zero incentive to drug test cuz its just putting their payday & their prized cattle at risk.

I'd also add its a losing battle cuz the science is moving way faster then the testing & at some point I contend you'll be able to use PED's without detection or even more science fiction becoming reality use DNA/gene manipulation to make body &/or performance enhancements more acceptable, mainstream & unstoppable in pro sports.

Lamont Peterson but I'm not sure if he gets a pass or we just don't care about Peterson. It's a thin line between a pass and not giving a sh.it.

He's on that line I think. Got a lot of **** at the time, but it has largely been forgotten. Also when guys use the medical condition excuse it tends to create doubt. Or at least it did. Don't now if anyone buys it anymore.

You should check out CRISPR. Genetic engineering is coming, but it's a long way off for now.




Detection has always been difficult, right from the beginning. But the idea is to make it harder and harder to dope. And for all the sophistication of the dopers, they are still largely using testosterone based anabolics because they are what works.

Ultimately you can't ever give up the fight, because if the fight dies the sport dies with it. Imagine if it emerged that Morales-Barrera I was decided not by the skill or the heart of the two fighters, but by the compound developed by the labs that supplied their steroids? Or by the technique their doctor used for administering the substances.

If you want high level fights to be decided by boxing, and not by pharmacology, then you have to keep fighting drugs. Because the drugs are that decisive, and they do make the difference between winning and losing.
