    Canelo fan here.

JCC looks great in these pics. Glad he seems to be taking this fight seriously. The weight will still be tough for him to reach, but he's going the right things to get there.

    Can't wait for this fight

It would require a hell of a lot of determination to get down to 164.5 and still be perfectly conditioned for a 12 round fight. Not impossible but for guys coming down in weight like Dawson and DLH we've seen it work out badly, and the chances are in camp there will be times when where training is more focused on taking the lbs off than on real fight preparation. A lot of guys can drain themselves for a weigh-in and then rehydrate it all back, but it's different when you spend weeks or more forcing your body down, you don't go back to your old self after one day of replenishing.

I'm not saying it's impossible he can do it healthy. He's coming down less than DLH, Dawson. And Hopkins made the DLH catchweight and won. But Jr doesn't seem to have Hopkins level of dedication. People can say he'll be super dedicated for this because it's such a big fight but they said the same before he fought Martinez and it didn't happen there.

I feel like this kind of thing can go wrong in 2 ways, for anyone not just Chavez Jr. First is the boxer gives it 100%, gets his weight down early in camp to make sure it won't be a problem later. But as a result he isn't as strong or well conditioned as he usually is in training, lacks sharpness, intensity in sparring, and just isn't right for the fight. Second possibility is the boxer feels they can do their usual thing and just take off the extra close to the fight. As a result 2-3 weeks out the camp panic and focus everything on bringing the weight down, day after day of barely eating but having to keep active, then closer to the fight not even drinking any fluids and sweating out every last drop, it's mentally and physically stressful and the longer you do it the longer it takes to rebound.

If Chavez prepares well in this fight, Canelo would be in deep waters.

I see this fight more like Martinez vs Chavez where Jr was peppered with punches, but nearly KOd Sergio in the last round.

            Is there a re-hydrate clause??

If there isnt i give Jr a chance, if there is no shot at all.

How is chavez in that list? You need to tell me why it makes sense when the alternative is unifying against any of the belt holders in HIS OWN division, or fighting GGG (considering Canelo was once middleweight champ).

The chavez fight makes no sense and is the perfect example of a media creation selling rubbish to gullible, nationalistic fans.

When big guys are young and fight light stay dedicated they can continue to make their lightest weight for years, when the same guys gets older and he lets his body gain 4-5 kilo or more above where it normally is, or fight in a division or 2 higher than he has for years going back to their old weight is near on impossible because the body has gained internal fat deposits that will not come off through any kind of exercise, it just hardens and will not budge so now if you are making the weight you have lost more muscle to compensate the scales , the only way to remove this internal fat excess is to starve it off, the body will try to hang on to it until the last man so it must be forced to consume it at a metabolic level to remove it, exercise will not do it, saunas will not do it, running will not do it, only by starving the intake will the body burn every gram of excess.

Training for mths to make weight and not exchange fat for muscle as normal but to lose muscle and harden that internal fat can really hurt you, everybody has a number and if you go below that number you are on a slippery slope racing towards disaster, Oscar was a prime example of how the body reacts when its has gone too far, he gained 2 pounds from the weigh in and the much smaller Manny out weighted him on the night, the primary reason is because this older Oscar had been 20lbs bigger than his youth weight for many years and his body now older had gained that excess that was never going to come off again without leaving him a shadow of his self .
Making the scale is one thing making it and being strong fast with stamina and punch resistance is another thing entirely.

Man and animals have been making a low weight to fight since the birth of competition over a 150 yrs ago , with dogs a 1/4 pound can get you killed, fighting roosters ounces matter greatly and man a few pounds, the science to weight reduction has changed but the results are the same as they have always been, if you get it wrong and are below your bodys cut off point you will lose , you will be weakened, have less snap, less endurance, less resistance.

Canelos team looked closely at Jnrs last weigh in and figure a few more pounds will tip him over the edge, I expect Canelo to be a strong as a bull and stop a weight drained Chavez , most people in here have no idea how weight works they think its only a few more pounds, well when you dont have them to give you are in big trouble.
