I feel like when a guy moves up he should be at the top of the list for a final eliminator for the mandatory spot unless somebody already earned the spot. So Charlo has a fight against whoever to get used to the weight, an then an eliminator in the summer for a shot at Golovkin in December.
Sure why not, Charlo's dossier is not that deep that he couldn't use a decent middleweight name on it first before moving on to fight with the big dogs in the division.
Aleem, Quillin, Monroe, Khurtsidze among others would work just fine as a first step. As long as he steps it even further up in the next fight
If You Hear the GGG haters tell it, 160 so Weak, Charlo will with automatically because king of the hill himself.
Middleweight is definitely weak enough that he won't have to go all the way down to #15 to find a credible, yet safe guy to get his feet wet against. I think he'd do just fine with a David Lemieux or Andy Lee type. Those level of fighters would be top 15 types in a good division.
It will be interesting to see who they come up with for Charlo's MW debut. I'm really looking forward to see how he looks and if he is still able to get stoppages against good opposition at the new weight.
I agree with Shields here. Don't throw him in with Golovkin yet, let him face a 10-15th ranked MW and see how he does. If his power and skills carry up with the weight then him and Gennady could be a great fight next year.
