Because he could not cut the weight anymore without doing harm to himself. Loma will do the same. when it becomes hard to make weight he will go up. Golovkin fought at Middleweight in the Amateurs and turned pro at middleweight and still fights at middleweight. He has no issues making weight at age 35. Most fighters grow out of divisions because they cannot make weight without doing damage to their bodies or effecting their performance, Golovkin does not have that problem because he isn't cutting 15-20 lbs like most middleweights. Most of the time he comes into camp needing to lose 7-8 pounds but loses about ten. And weighs in at 158-159 at official weigh ins and with IBF rules cannot re-hydrate more than 10% on fight night. Where as other fighters BJS for example look like holocaust victims at weigh in. Golovkin doesn't.
don't expect a reply to this post. most of these guys are just here to hate and **********. a good number of them don;t like golovkin simply becuase he's not black.

Black or White I just don't get the double standards and lack of Logic. If you are an Amateur at a certain weight then go pro at a weight division below what you fought at as an amateur the of course you are going to HAVE to move up a weight division once you get older. However if you fight at a weight division and turn pro in that very same weight division the chances of you HAVING to move up a division is slim. In the case of Golovkin he can choose to move up a weight division because he can still make weight at 35. And he can be considered a "small" middleweight because most of the guys fighting at middleweight come into camp at light-heavy weight. Hell 30 Days from his fight with Brook, Golovkin was at 165 and Brook was at 176, and Brook fights at 147!! How much Brook walk around at?? (I understand that he put on muscle for this fight but still).

Anyway my point is that Golovkin could be considered (and right fully so) a small middleweight because to have to cut 5-10 lbs vs 15-20 is explanation in itself.

Sorry i know that was long winded but yeah.

          ''you know...jusssss....I'm small middleweight!''

Your arguments make no sense at all. He obviously saw Ward as a difficult fight and wanted it at a catchweight to even out the size difference. Chavez jr & Froch are bigger fights and lower risk so he was will to fight at 168.

Why do people demand that Golovkin moves up despite making weight easily. I thought fighters moved up when they outgrew divisions??? Ward stayed at 168 for years until he couldnt make that weight anymore. Why didnt you people cry when he stayed at 168 instead of moving up?

Golovkin weighs 170+ lbs fight night, he's not a small MW.

Ward was a smaller SMW than Golovkin is a MW. He weighed 176 fight night against Dawson. That's +8 lb from his weigh in weight, Golovkin puts on 10+ lbs.

What does that prove? As long as he makes weight comfortably why should he move up? He is 35 so he isnt growing either. Only reason you want him to move up is so he can have a weight diadvantage against bigger guys. I want him to love up also but first I want him to beat the top guys at MW. It is not like 168 is a great division with any big fights for him anyway... who knows, Jacobs might beat him...

The reason a good number of you do like him is because he's not Black.

We produce too much greatness to be impressed by a 35 y/o chicken-legged guy with a resume that reads like an SNL skit.
