why does anyone need an excuse to not move up? why shouldn't everybody fight at whatever weight they perform best at?

Lets put it this way. Golovkin spent most of his amateur career at MW. Turned pro and stayed at middleweight. Because that is obviously the most comfortable weight for him to fight at and the weight where he operates best at. And by no means am I picking on Ward but he is the first one that came to mind. He fought at Light Heavyweight in the Amateurs and turned pro fought at Super Middleweight and now fights at Light Heavyweight. That Makes him a big Super Middleweight or a Natural Light Heavyweight.

If you are 35 and not having issues making weight for fights that makes you a natural average or small middleweight.

Now someone mentioned 173 vs Rubio. Rubio didn't make weight at all for the fight.

so Loma was fighting at 132 in the Olympics and decided to go Pro at 126...

What does that have to do with Golovkin claiming to be a ''Small Middleweight?''

            Since you brought up Ward...

Why do you care if he calls him self a small MW ? what are you trying to prove ? he is old and fights at MW which should tell you it his ideal fighting weight today , he does not struggle (like for example Ward or Jack) to make their weight and thus forced to move up , why even make a thread about it ? what is the point ? if you believe he is a big middle weight and it makes you sleep better go ahead , but why you nitpick on every small thing he says ? boxers talk , they say things , are we going to make a thread about every insignificant word they say ? you are obsessed dude ..... he is either small or avg MW if he wants to call him self small so be it , if you think he is avg so be it , let it go ...... soon you will make a thread about his hair cut ....

Ok I obviously didn't make myself clear. Ward Amateur at 175 goes pro at 168. Grows out of the division with age and moves back up to 175. Because he could not cut the weight anymore without doing harm to himself. Loma will do the same. when it becomes hard to make weight he will go up. Golovkin fought at Middleweight in the Amateurs and turned pro at middleweight and still fights at middleweight. He has no issues making weight at age 35. Most fighters grow out of divisions because they cannot make weight without doing damage to their bodies or effecting their performance, Golovkin does not have that problem because he isn't cutting 15-20 lbs like most middleweights. Most of the time he comes into camp needing to lose 7-8 pounds but loses about ten. And weighs in at 158-159 at official weigh ins and with IBF rules cannot re-hydrate more than 10% on fight night. Where as other fighters BJS for example look like holocaust victims at weigh in. Golovkin doesn't.
