Saul "Canelo" Alvarez was the most popular fighter by Google Trends until 2015, but in the last year "GGG" Gennady Golovkin gained alot of momentum, while Canelo stagnated slightly because of his unwillingness to step into a ring with Golovkin. Golovkin since then has surpassed Canelo in Google Trends search interests worldwide.
The Kazakh born fighter who is now fighting out of California is now tracking slightly ahead of Canelo in worldwide popularity. GGG is also catching up in the USA, where Canelo used to have the edge in all 50 states until 2015 but by January 2017 GGG has already surpassed Canelo in 23 out of 50 states.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, who just signed to fight Canelo Alvarez next, is tracking far behind both Golovkin and Canelo in popularity, USA and worldwide.
