As a division it has pretty much everything. Past, present and future.

A disputed rivalry between two of the p4p best fighters in boxing (Kovalev/Ward).

A retiring hall-of-famer who passed the torch via a sound beating (Hopkins).

Dangerous wildcards/up-and-comers like Beterbiev, Gvozdyk, Smith.

Solid/depth guys like Pascal, Cleverly. And a very gradual dropoff from there. No cliff

An ex pedophile coward who ducked everyone and held the lineal title hostage into his 40s because in quebec they'd pay to see him punch a bowl of jello (Stevenson).

I don't really see how anyone can dislike 175 or say it sucks. What exactly is it missing? Other than the Stevenson problem.

Again, Joe Smith Jr is not a world champion and B-Hop is not a "top contender in his 50's." He fought once after turning 50 and using an extreme outlier as your main argument point makes this whole thread pretty much invalid. Besides the fact that you're just wrong to begin with

beterbiev is an unproven prospect on the level of Wade before he faced golovkin.

Stevenson is a 40 yr old ex pimp. That's because the division is garbage.

Hopkins is a 50 yr old. not even ali was a top contenders past his 40's. The only reason Hopkins is competitive in his 50's is because the dviision is trash.

Smith is a bricklayer by trade. how are you going to be doing a full time physical job by day and be a boxing champ by night? BAD COMPETITION

Ward has 0 offensive arsenal outside of the running clinch. Just a jab. no right hand. no power.

Kovalev is a 4 round fighter who has no inside game.

        the division is terrible.

yup when Foreman beat Moorer for the title. that was regarded as the worst era in HW boxing.

When a bricklayer beat hopkins in his 50's for a title that took the worst era in boxing to a whole new level.

there are no excuses. Hopkins is 50 damn years old. Nobody is great at 50. Not ali, not holmes, not foreman. there is only bad competition.

I'm curious to see you address 168, 135 using the same style of analysis

I already did in the OP

"The 2 SMW's that fought lastnight were more skilled. They had a variety of punches. Great defense on both sides and they both had stamina to go 12 hard rounds.

No illegal tactics. Clean boxing skills."

They do not have any 50 yr olds as top contenders. They do not have any full time laborers as their boxing champs. They don't even have 40 yr old ex-cons. Imagine that.

So your big criticism of the division is that Hopkins got old (???)

Smith is not a champion he's just a wildcard at this point and Kovalev-Hopkins happened in 2014. It's 2017. Hopkins came back for a farewell fight. He is not currently a top contender, he handed the torch off 3 years ago.

Sad thing is a 90 year old hopkins could probably clean out 168 right now

skill for skill. attribute for attribute. Absolutely.

Kovalev has a 4 round gas tank. Both Degale and Jack has 12 rounds.

Kovalev has no inside game. Both degale and Jack fought on the outside and went to the body throughout the fight.

Ward has no offensive game. None without illegal tactics. Degale and Jack both can crack with both hands. clean skills.

Ward is 1 handed. left. no rights. Degale and Jack both do.

Ward is the most overrated boxer in the modern era. his boxing style would not win a single fight outside of biased judging/refereeing. The hold and hit, running tackle + headbutt is just a disgrace. Ward can have the same fight he did against Bika or Kessler in anywhere outside the US, he would be disqualified.
