Is Mayweather Punch Drunk Or Just Really Dumb?

Keep in mind I"m mostly a fan of Mayweather and I've watched him speak over the years, he was never a bright bulb, but recently after he's retired it seems like his speech capabilities have disintegrated even further. Watching a few recent interviews such as this one, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nweYVErLrbo he's just more and more hesitant and appears to be able to only speak a word at a time.

Has he really taken that much punishment to his brain to have permanent brain damage or is he simply not that smart?

I've been noticing that more lately myself. Seeing him with less boxers really brings it out more. I've seen him flow a whole lot better in more casual situations so it could be a lil nerves too in some of these situations, but I can't believe anyone in the boxing business for two decades doesn't have some brain damage. And that brain damage could for sure effect ones speech among other things. Even if they are among the best defensive fighters in the history of the sport.

Someone in the comments section said that Floyd was slowly starting to sound like his dad and I noticed it too. I hope I'm wrong though. He's slow to get to his thoughts at times and forgetful of names. But there are other times when he sounds just fine so I don't know.

yes it's true. Someone here said that he hasn't taken much punches to the head in his career. WHile this is true, I think most damage occurs in sparring anyway. The amount of punches fighters take during the course of their career in sparring far outweighs the punches they take in their actual fights and it's far more likely and easier to get hit in the head in sparring because the headgear is so big so you end up catching a lot more glancing blows that probably slowly deteriorate your brain matter more and more

Even if he didn't take much punishment in the ring. He was still taking punches, even just jabs for 49 fights + all the amateur bouts and sparring.

In the context of boxing he didn't take much punishment but he still took a million times more punishment than your average guy who hasn't been in a ring does and more than the human body is designed to

                  He's simply just a ****** person

The only thing he knows is how to box and the business side of boxing.

He can't have an intelligent conversation about anything else.

naturally i'd lean towards the latter because his defense was impeccable.
