Good fight to be honest he was very advanced for his time. His book featuring techniques etc is testament to that.

I feel it's important to distinguish between this era & Dempseys. This sport has come a long way evidenced by amateur systems, rule changes, technology & the like.

I don't want to demean Dempsey when I say crude. However if you transported him from footage available & matched him vs the best Super HW's he'd get beat 9/10 times. Best thing about this is you could disagree because it's hypothetical.

You stated Wilder is garbage however at 6'7 and 5 oz gloves on (the same size he wore against FIRPO who knocked him out of the ring and down before that ) he would be Dempeys most dangerous opponent with much more power and speed than back in those days for anyone hovering over 6'5 . Firpo was a 6'2 215 average talent though better skilled than any SHW THEN....see you just dont get it .

Dempey would be lucky to hit a top 50 spot today and if you cant see that than its a waste of my time which pretty much sums up this entire thread .

Jess Willard fights like a very poor man's Wlad. Willard would've been one of those guys like those guys like Gavern in today's HW era.

Look at him here KO'ing but struggling with a 6' Jack Johnson while having a 6' height advantage and a 10' reach advantage in a 45 round fight where he finally KO'ed him in the 26th round. So Johnson went two modern fights + 2 rounds with Willard before losing.



These guys are all too stiff for today's modern HW's, you dudes are on something or pretending like you know more than everyone else, you want to look like legit boxing historians or something. Face it, these dudes would get flattened by Joshua, Wlad or Wilder. I don't even have to get the top 5 HW's, all I have to get is Luis Ortiz, Tony Bellew, Alexander Povetkin and your stiffs would be toast.

I don't know about that. Bellew is very mediocre and got lucky in beating Haye. At a fat 210 pounds, Dempsey would have a more than a shot against Bellew. Even the trimmer 200 or so Bellew would be an underdog against Dempsey imo.

Also, Jack Dempsey weighed 187lbs there in the ring, which explains his good movement. Today, top Heavyweights like Fury, Wilder, and even low ranking HW's like Bellew, move just like he's moving there, and I don't know one top HW who moves as slow as Willard and has as **** defense as Willard is showing there. You got guys today actually putting their hands up and giving space between their legs to sit down on their punches. Look at Willard with his hands down throughout the whole fight, and his legs stiff with no attempt to sit down on his punches. He's pretty much like a tree in there.

This is what Andre Ward would look like against a really bad HW champion who I honestly can't think of a HW right now that Ward can fight for a title and is as bad as Willard. Joseph Parker looks like Ali compared to those older heavies.

Dempsey was great for his time but there's no way that in this era he'd be fighting these big athletic HW's. He'd have to be a LHW. It's easy to fight those non athletic, 50 year old dad body, stiff HW's.

I totally agree, unfortunately some peoples sentiments cloud their judgments. I respect his achievements & yes he was a great in that era but at this level he couldn't cope.

Here is Luis Angel Firpo giving Jack Dempsey the windmill from hell in round 1 of 15, Dempsey had no answer for it. A right hand at the end of the windmilling knocks Dempsey down from the ring.
