That's why the rematch happening rests heavily on Andre Ward's hands. Stevenson broke it down in simplified detail. If Ward demands twice the amount of money he made in the first fight, then it simply says, "No I don't want the rematch." Simple as that. This is not some May/Paq 2 or Paq/Marques V, or even Gatti vs Ward. This is a fight very few people want to see.

If it's true that ROC lost money in the first fight, then who would even bother paying the same amount in a rematch? So everything is all up to Ward. Kovalev, on the other hand, would most likely accept any offer as he has no history of pricing himself up/out.

Stevenson sounds like he's transitioning into being an announcer already with lack of fighting and talking into microphones so much lol.

          that is exactly right

Ward will be treated like a king during the rematch

dunno how you could possibly say that with a straight face

what makes you think that ?

how can you suggest that Ward could not possibly improve, and yet also suggest that Kovalev had a gear left?

I initially thought the chances of making money off Ward/Kovalev had passed

Duva is the one that killed the Stevenson fight.

She lobbied for WBC #1 ranking and a purse bid....got both....then ran.

Team Kova are the ones scare.
Let people pretend otherwise, makes them feel better. I've seen the most neutral posters on this site already acknowledge that Duva killed the fight not that Stevenson ducked Kovalev. She was given two serious chances by Haymon and the WBC, turned both down.

Will Roc Nation treat Ward like a king? Cotto is getting $10 million to fight Kirkland. Ward got $5 million to fight Kovalev the first time, and it was a PPV flop! Will Roc Nation give Ward more that $5 million for a rematch?

The fight will sell more this time but Roc nation already lost huge money in the first fight!

                    no idea

I thought that stuff was already agreed

not sure if that fight would justify it, neither Ward nor Kovalev are a draw really?

                    that other poster nailed it.....

imho, Ward wants to have the upper hand, he wants them to know it, and he wants more respect

he wants star billing, the red carpet, the works.....

I truly believe he would hold most of the advantages in a rematch, and I'm sure he knows that..... and only Stevenson would pay better

And he can't fight any other fighter before Kovalev. Therefore his only choices are to fight Kovalev or retire! I think his delay is to get a better contract with Roc Nation!
