  • Comments Thread For: Porter's Coach: Garcia Has Never Been Tested Like Thurman Has

I think Thurman beats Garcia because Shawn put him in a life or death situation. He’s prepared. Garcia hasn’t had that type of competition.”
Disagree with that. Garcia has had tough fights with Matthysse, Peterson, and Herrera. So he has had that level of competition even if a lot of people don't think he won all those fights.

I rate Garcia highly but I think Thurman may edge it.

As for the article Matthysse is a more gruelling opponrnt than Porter.

          Illogical.

Matthysse, Khan, Peterson. These are top opposition.

Thurman has only fought Porter who's comparable.

And if we want to talk hard, close fights where the guy had to pull out the win then Garcia has had way more of those than Thurman.

As much as I cant stand Danny he faced some good fighters (more than Keith) before he turned cherry picker and moved up. Thurman gonna smash him though, Danny feasted on too many cherries and has somewhat been exposed in 2 fights since his big win over Matthysse. Thurman hit a bump or 2 but Danny was gifted a decision maybe 2 against Herrera and Peterson.

Thurman's best wins : Diego Chaves (22-0), Soto-Karass, Bundu (40 years old but solid 31-0), Guerrero and Porter.

Garcia's best wins : Guerrero, Peterson, Herrera, Matthysse, Judah (Zab was rejuvenated that night, he tested Danny), Khan, Holt, Morales 1 (yes Erik was 35 y/o, but he was ranked #5 at 140 by The Ring, while Danny was #7. solid win and Erik tested him).

resume edge clearly goes to Danny. he's way more battle tested than Keith.. but that was 140.. can he show that same will at 147, we'll find out in this fight.

and I disagree with Kenny that Porter made it "life or death"..to me it was an action fight that Keith was always in control of.

Well everyone else pretty much summed it up nicely. Needless to say, this was total bull.

One thing you have to say is that at least three guys (Matthysse, Herrera, Peterson) deserved rematches against Danny and they didn't get them. That's a black mark. Both Floyd and Manny gave rematches to anyone who had given them a close call.

Say what you want about Garcia, but he's has a pretty good resume. I think it's laughable for Kenny to say something like this. Thurman's best win a razor close and in some people's eyes controversial decision over Shawn Porter. Other than that, Guerrero and Chaves are his only other notable wins. Guerrero literally lost to a cab driver recently and i do consider Chaves and underrated fighter but he still doesn't match up to the caliber of opponents Garcia has beaten. I'm not a fan of Garcia, but once upon a time, he actually went out there, tooks risks and faced good opposition and always found a way to win.
