It seems that Cotto isn’t interested in making any more fights that would enhance his legacy. What interests Cotto is making money. With Cotto not interested in making good fights, do fans still care to see him back in the ring?

With Floyd Mayweather retiring and Manny Pacquiao in the twilight of his career, fans have become more invested in the new generation of boxing. Cotto represents the old model of boxing where fans have to buy a PPV in order to see the biggest stars fight. With Cotto’s guarantee being $15 million per fight, there’s little chance that he won’t be on PPV. Cotto-Kirkland will be an exciting fight if it takes place without question. However, it holds no significance but to line Cotto’s pockets with money. It may be better for fans and Cotto himself who has already punched his ticket into Canastota to retire.

I only bring this up to show that Ward and Cotto are contemporaries, and they are signed to the same company. One of them is undefeated, now at 2 weight classes. The other has lost to Pacquiao, Mayweather, and Austin Trout. One is facing "The Krusher!" The other is facing James Kirkland. One is getting $5 million, and the other is getting $15 million. Maybe, just maybe, Ward is trying to re-negotiate his deal?

Cotto sells more tickets than ward, fans like his style of fighting more than wards, so dont think he will get a deal that will pay him the same as cotto. I think he realizes he's too small for the lhw division, he couldnt hurt anyone in smw. Guys like kov and adonis would walk through his punches and deliver big shots that could send him into retirement anyway so why take the risk.

Boxing Scene has the most haters out of any other boxing website. Ward won. He can do what the hell he wants. He beat the "Krusher". If Kovalev was better then he would've got the KO. But he didn't. Ward won't get a bigger payday than that unless GGG stops being a b*tch and fights him.

He did not win. He just got the decision from "sympathetic" judges. Not the same. The fight is for everyone to see.

Pac is still elite, and he SHOULD face the best welters. Or retire and GTFO. He would definitely get the money if he fought an elite welter; his fan base is enormous.

I can't argue with numbers, so I ain't mad at Cotto and Pacquiao for getting paid. I just think Ward has to feel some kind of way about the situation! I know I would! "Why my family not eatin' like his family?" You know it goes! It's wack, but it's real! I think Ward is dealing with the reality that even with a victory, you're just not that guy! He's probably looking at 51-year old B-Hop flipping outta ring ropes and asking himself, "Is that going to be me?"

I really want that Kovalev vs Ward rematch. If he retired now, I will be greatly disappointed in Ward. That said, I do think this is a negotiation tactic on his part

He's thinking about retiring because he knows he doesn't have what it takes to beat Kovalev in a rematch. He gave everything he had to get up from that knockdown and rally in the 2nd half. What are chances he does that if he gets knocked down again?

Otherwise why not fight him again? If Ward thinks he schooled him then fight him again and he could get more money cause the rematch would be even bigger.
