If PBC had belts would you respect / acknowlege them over the Alpphabet titles?

    Adam -

You have no idea what you're talking about. Bellator is a loss leader for Spike. Bellator is not profitable. Spike pays PBC. You're a petulant child ranting on a message board.

I've worked in MMA for many years and have relationships with many of the higher ups in Bellator. I'm not knocking them in any way, but they are not profitable. You're pulling that out of your rear.

Pride did not exist when UFC titles were introduced. Again, you have no idea what you're talking about.

PBC used the threat of creating titles to gain maximum leverage and influence with the WBC/WBA/IBF. Haymon's stranglehold on those organizations is making things very difficult for the HBO promoters.

If PBC titles were created on day one, TR/GB/K2/ME/etc would have had many more champions, which would be counter productive to Al's plan. It's important to starve the HBO promoters as much as possible. Al can kill off the sanctioning bodies later. There's no rush. First he must kill HBO boxing.

PBC isn't dead yet though. They can still turn it around and they have a lot of fighters. A lot of young guys too. Not a lot of old, washed up guys. They have the talent for sure to do something.

PBC creating their own titles would be a game changer. If they do that, it'll be a major step in the right direction.

          No

It would be the "american gangsta" belt that would be given to them for winning by cheating.

It's the only way to make fighters on top face each other. Right now the sport has been inundated with top fighters fighting their own individual fights. It's only recently that they're gradually being forced to fight each other because fans are mad as hell.

It made sense to me from the get go but you made a good chess analogy here that reminds me how intelligent Haymon is and how the people who claim that PBC is "losing business" and most of the hedge fund has gone down the toilet are being short sighted and/or aren't thinking in terms of profit and long term growth.
Haymon's #1 revenue source is Showtime and he gets to eat basically their entire budget.

Top Rank, Golden Boy, K2, Main Events, Roc Nation, etc all have to share the HBO pie, which is getting smaller and smaller and smaller. The smallest it's been in decades. When HBO pulls the plug, it's checkmate for Haymon.

Meanwhile, Showtime is more committed to the sport than ever and if Haymon is able to create enough leverage with FOX, he's got a real shot at getting CBS to put up serious money for PBC to become a traditional sports league shown exclusively on CBS/SPIKE/SHOWTIME.

Another factor though is that if UFC leaves FOX, FOX becomes desperate to prop up FS1 and PBC could land a big deal with FOX/FS1.

But no matter how things play out, there's no doubt Haymon will have more power than ever and TR/GB/etc will be in serious serious trouble. Look at what happened to Don King. One day you control the sport, the next day you're boxed out. Once you're boxed out, it's almost impossible to get back in.

A decade ago, Gary Shaw controlled pretty much all of the major Showtime dates. Now he's got nothing.

I really don't see how anybody is going to be able to stop Haymon. Golden Boy has one fighter. That's it. Once GGG destroys him, they've got nothing. Arum is hanging on by a thread and can't get Showtime to take him back. It's over folks. People just don't realize it yet because it's going to take a few years for everything to play out.

That's a very important point. When Pacquiao and Canelo are gone, TR & GB won't have much.

But Haymon will have a giant army of young American world champions. Like literally dozens. You can see him developing them and spreading them out. Before you know it he'll have like 75% of the WBC/WBA/IBF titles from 135-168. He has so many young fighters coming up, he's racking up belt after belt, and you look through the rankings and he's gonna have all the kids fighting all the eliminators. It's Don King 1983 all over again.

Didn't know that Showtime and Haymon had such a strong relationship. You are right though. It will be interesting to see how things play out over the next few years. I think it will ultimately be better for boxing but can't imagine The Bobfather going quietly into the night.
